Baltimore will never have the cultural/ethnic/culinary/architectural/scenic diversity of Oakland. Oakland will never have the urban fabric/history/downtown/importance of Baltimore. However, Oakland does offer a very complete downtown, neighborhoods with unique offerings that can't be found anywhere else in the Bay, a very satisfying sports offering, a highly educated populace, a thriving music and arts scene and an absolutely stunning natural setting.

A lot of people underrate that Oakland's business side isn't limited to its downtown... there are 18 business districts that all do a good amount of business.

Chinatown

Broadway

Lakeshore Ave

Piedmont Ave

Telegraph

Dimond District

Laurel District

Park Blvd

Fruitvale & International Area (Latino District)

College Ave

Jack London Square

Clinton Square

Fruitvale & Foothill

San Pablo Ave

Martin Luther King Jr. Way

7th St.

Montclair

Along with Hegenberger and Grand Ave. Most tourists have no idea about these areas because finding would require actually venturing into Oakland (gasp)... lol.
Yo, those pics are kind of lame. You sure that isn't Sunnyvale?

You've never been to Sunnyvale.

Never said that. Point was which city is better. They both have serious crime issues. I don't see how Oakland could ever clean up it's act. The overflow from San Francisco just moves down to San Mateo County and what not. They have no use for Oakland because of it's filthyness. And then there are the mudslides and wildfires. Got hope? Not in Oakland.

This is one of the top 5 most idiotic posts I have read about Oakland on this site, and that's saying a lot.

Did you just call Oakland a "filthy city" while comparing it to San Francisco? You have never, ever, ever set foot in this city if you think that's a criticism you can leverage at it with a straight face. And did you just say that no one from San Francisco moves to Oakland? That's the funniest thing I've read all week.

Just to show you how ridiculously stupid your first assertion is, here's a couple pictures of the projects in Oakland... if anything's going to be "filthy" it would be them.

Don't the green lawns and spotless paint-jobs just scream filthy and neglected?

Not to mention that of all the references to crime in Oakland you make a reference to the murder rate while knowing that Baltimore's is nearly 1.5x greater. You're officially on ignore.
