I was JUST about to say that! The photo I posted is at least 3-4 years old, hence why you can't even see the 'Gehry tower' yet. In another 3-4 years watch how it transforms even further, especially with the city point Tower! (This isn't the final design but it will be around this height. It will be the tallest in Brooklyn)

Nei, that's one of my favorite captures of the new arena and Downtown Brooklyn by the way. The arena looks so small but in person it's massive!

Whether you think Philly is world class city or not is debatable, but historically, Philly's mayors and leadership have been it's biggest stumbling block in moving forward. Nutter is a pleasant divergence from Philly status quo, but I cant see a Goode or Street, or even Rendell caliber individual ever being in a mayoral position in a world class city like NYC. NYC has been gentrifying and moving forward, especially under Bloomberg, Philly has been stagnating in comparison. What you get getting off the plane at the airport is a portent of things to come when visiting Philly.

Yea, that makes sense now. I remember visiting someone in Park Slope (who grew up there) and he said Crown Heights was the neighborhood immediately to the east. Wasn't so positive about it, and mentioned something about a riot years ago. Then I looked up stuff and found Crown Heights not in the same place I thought it was and found a new one called Prospect Heights.

Dude there are currently 16 working cranes in Center City with a slew of smaller projects as well.

Anyone who has seen the renaissance of the center of Philadelphia in the past 25 years would laugh at the above comment as pure nonsense.

A direct comparison between Brooklyn and Philadephia is a difficult one. Philadelphia being much more historical, larger(geographically),and topographically diverse than Brooklyn is going to result in different paths taken.

Philadelphia' bones are world class. There are 200-300 year old neighborhoods in Philadelphia that are immaculate and untouchable to any type of change or growth. This is one city where you cant just go knocking stuff down, put up some cheap glass and calling it progress.

I agree the industrial area around the airport doesnt put Philadelphia in a good light but only the shallow minded , like yourself, would allow it to obscure the rest of the city which has an awful lot of good to offer.

It's not my place to explain the concept of "opinion" to you, but with the unnecessary personal insult, thank you for helping make my point about this second tier city

Might want to look up the word "portent" also. . .

Haha, people like you crack me up. You have no qualms about calling a city of 1.5 Million+ a "dirty, nasty sprawling dump" but immediately start crying when someone says you are shallow minded LOL some people just don't get it. You need all the help you can get "making your point" but I'd say you're not there yet.

I wouldnt expect you to get it. Stay cracked up. Closer to 60 than 40, I've lived / worked all over Philly, West Chester and Bucks County for over 30 years. How many years have you known me to make your opinion ? There is a contingent of CD forum monitors who bang their widdle red fisties over any opinion that is not shameless cheerleading for their city. Newsflash: Lots of people = Lot's of divergent opinions.
Actually get out and travel if you have any interest in growing out of this childish phase.

You're welcome

I travel more often than my money permits and actually lived in The Bronx for 4 years, although I didn't get to Brooklyn often, which is why I've refrained from comparing the two.
You are entitled to your opinion but calling Philly "sprawly" is factually incorrect. You may think parts of it are a "dirty, nasty dump" and in that case I would tell you to explore more of New York, because the poor areas of both cities can be remarkably similar
