No he only gave one district for NYC. The city still has so many other things. And DC would still exist but not be the capital anymore, it would still have all that architecture and monuments and such...

Drilling, the port is for transportation. If you said no coastal areas for Houston, then it would hit the city harder than "no port" because drilling a large force for oil.
But since you only said port, Houston will survive better.
I don't know OmShahi, Wallstreet is really the anchor of NYC.
Its grown to be huge but I think without Wallstreet you would see a rapid decline until eventually there was little left of NYC. Gotta think Wallstreet embodies pretty much the entire global financial market. NYC was built on Wallstreet, not the other way around.

Could've fooled me. If there is some main port and its predominately for transport I apologize for debatable wording but I meant if Oil Tankers had no way of getting to Houston.
Last I checked those tankers needed to dock somewhere. A port if you will
Think about it, I mean DC would still probably survive, but imagine taking all the politics and military work away from that city? Millions of people would be jobless.

They'd go to the Port of Galveston or the Port of Texas City, if the Port of Houston vanished.

Port of Houston. There's also Port of Galveston, and Port of (some other suburban city- forgot it's name).
Those would make for alternatives.
And as for transporting oil goes, if the area were to lose all of it's ports, then it would figure something out on how to get it there. I mean truckers transport oil as well, and railroads would be a bigger option then.
Also if all was lost, then Houston's diminishing reliance on energy for it's overall economy would find a way for the other economic sectors to shine, but yeahhh it would take a huge blow to the economy. But it wouldn't end up like Vegas without casinos or DC without the government.
