Haha, living in New Jersey and repping California so much more! Yeahhhh because California's on the "best" coast.

Anyways, interesting to see a lot of these cities gain population. I wonder how city proper populations will fare when the census comes out next year.

The ones in red, 4 of those I pointed out yesterday, they're not just the cities either, their CSA/MSA are also in a decline... saddening actually.

The majority of the top 20 cities have insane boundaries. I'm using Charlotte as an example because I'm familiar with the city so please don't think I'm trying to start trouble. Anyway, the city has annexed it's way to roughly 300 square miles. Minneapolis would have to annex St. Paul and 25 of their inner-ring suburbs to reach that size. It's population as of the latest census estimates would be 1,222,719.

Minneapolis has no room to grow, and Minneapolis proper is not a big city (smaller than Omaha), but its metro is huge. That's because cities as far as 60 miles away are included in that number. How on earth can St. Cloud be considered metro Twin Cities - it's over 60 miles away. I used to drive to St. Cloud from Minneapolis to call on a couple of my accounts, and it was a long drive, with a lot of nothing in between.

It's just weird how spread out the Twin Cities metro is - one of the most sprawling metros I've been in. Granted, though, I haven't been everywhere. I guess it just seems weird that completely separate cities(an hour away) are considered part of the metro.

I'm originally from Minnesota, so I'm not bashing - I'm just stating that I've always thought it weird that it's metro is so sprawling - one of the biggest metros in the country, and Minneapolis is only the 48th largest city.

I know Minneapolis doesn't have any room to grow. This has to due with the fact that it can't annex land (and population) like so many other cities have done (i.e. Charlotte, Omaha, Kansas City, etc...). The fact that neither MPLS. nor STPL. could ever annex has led to there being over 330 suburbs in the metro area. So yeah, it's not a "big city" as you state, but only because it doesn't have boundaries that exceed 100, 200, or even 300 sq. miles. This is why city proper population is kinda

BTW, St. Cloud is not part of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. It's part of the new combined statistical area (CSA), but barely makes the cut.
