I think you guys are both thinking different things. When we say "best hockey city", we mean the city that has the most devoted fans to the sport, not who has the best W-L record... If Phoenix wins the cup next year, will people begin to proclaim Phoenix is the best hockey city? From a W-L aspect yes, but not from what we're discussing in this thread which is the
actual fans.

I said twice already Minneapolis probably is the Top Hockey City...So what they dont win championships.....Does that mean Pittsburgh isn't a top hockey city too...its in the top 5 definitely and it has Stanley Cups and Hockey Legends to go along with it.....
As i've said before...Pittsburgh is an all around sports city, with an emphasis on Football, but we don't overly cater to one sport "Ehemm Minneapolis" and definitely not to one sport where we don't compete.
So Minneapolis can have the most Hockey fans whatever.....Pittsburgh is a top hockey city too, sorry if some MN homers just can't deal with that.
Did you not read what the OP had asked Larry? If you would have taken the time to actually read his / her question, you would have understood that this thread isn't about the NHL and/or the number of Stanley Cups won by team, which has absolutely nothing to do with a city being a hockey town.

I'm including a few cities on the poll outside the obvious Northern ones, although I already have my own idea what the top spots are.
I crunched some numbers from the last 5 years of the NHL draft. Over that time Minnesota has produced 16 first round picks, 12 of whom were from the Twin Cities metro.
The full list of first round picks by state:

New York - 7
Michigan - 4
New Jersey - 4

Just out of curiosity, how many were actually from Minneapolis?

Right, You're on the same boat as America. Until the rest of the USA realizes that much of Hockey success in the USA should be put on the state of Minnesota, we'll have a handful of clueless people out there.
David Backes
Zach Parise
Jamie Langenbrunner..
All on the USA olympic team, all from Minnesota.
