Chicago's version of the Highline would probably be Bloomingdale trail.
It's also an abondoned elevated railroad.
Although it is not a park and it is not maintained, and technically private property.
Many people go and jog, bike ride, and walk their dogs there.
It goes through populated neighborhoods.
Although since it is not an official park... no one guards it and lots of druggies stay there.
Yeah it might look pretty ghetto...
There's plans to turn it into an official trail though
That's really cool. I actually feel the High Line in NYC has too much of a manicured, antiseptic look to it. Maybe they'll keep some of the feral for Bloomingdale, eh?
I feel like I saw the High Line last time I was in NYC. How big is the park? It didn't look that big when I saw it (maybe 3 city blocks long??). How quiet is the park? Just some questions. Just curious.

It's opened/opening in sections and is at quite a bit more than 3 city blocks right now. It's at least over a mile long right now. The park is decently quiet as simply being off and above the streets does make things more tranquil.

For me of course no taking away from Manhattan's Central Park. It is one of the greatest urban Parks. But that aside. Chicago would win for its sprawling Lakefront on Lake Michigan with beaches and harbors. Grant Park Downtown with the added Millennium Park. Makes it a Chicago win for me, if it is not all about Central Park. Can't deny its value. I am no sure as a picture someone posted of a railroad bridge turned to a park with benches is constable as a valid park? Or can we add a green space floor on a skyscraper----- see Chicago Millennium Park picture and north shore?
got to admit this is one of the coolest parks ive ever seen. it would be cool if Chicago got one of those considering the history with the L. all of the lines are being used though. if you look at the lakefront parks vs centural park then Chicago wins imo. but overall new York wins it
The third phase (best phase) of the High Line just opened up three days ago and this summer saw the opening of more sections of the Brooklyn Bridge Park.
