Out of the four I think the west is less passionate about sports in general.....The south is all about college baseball, the north and northeast is about basketball, baseball, and some hockey. The Midwest is virtually the same as the east when it comes to sports maybe a little more passionate in some areas.
Here in Chicago there is a large following in high school sports as well
Like the above mentioned people in the South are hardcore college football fans no argument there. I love the Ohio and Michigan rivalry as well those Buckeyes will take a bullet for Ohio State and Michigan will jump in front of a semi for their precious Spartans. The Midwest also seems to have a lot of passionate baseball fans. The northeast has good pro everything. Lots of football, bball, and baseball fans throughout the region. The West has a lot of pro basketball fans and college football is kind of huge too. LA loves their Lakers, Phoenix loves their Suns (no matter how many games in a row they lose the US Airways Center will consistently sell out every game). Phoenix also has a lot of baseball fans. The Diamondbacks are truly loved here and with all of the Chicago transplants lots of Cubs fans as well. Arizona State and University of Arizona have a huge rivalry just as much as USC and UCLA.
Out West. The Northwest has some of the most pssionate sports fans in the world, excluding the mariners they are just too terrible at the moment....
