Why would the West Coast need it's own Statue of Liberty? The West Coast already has the Golden Gate Bridge. It's an iconic symbol of America, and to many foreigners who immigrate here, it is symbolic of American values and the American dream, just like the Statue of Liberty.

Not a great idea, but if someone wants to build it with private money, fine. I'm just not sure if it would have the same buzz, tourism and meaning that the first one in NYC, which is over 100 years old would.
That being said, even though I live 110 miles from Seattle, SF should get it.

There is a replica of Independence Hall with the Liberty Bell in Buena Park, CA - Knotts Berry Farm

I think San Francisco Bay would be the Obvious Choice given its history of being a landing point for the West Coast. The torch alone is pretty lame and pretentious.
Putting a male figure would open up way to many jokes.

Considering the political climate in California these days. A huge statute of Cheech Marin with smokin' doobie would be pretty appropriate, I'd say.

Dave's not here man.....

S.F. makes perfect sense. NOBODY thinks of immigrating to the western U.S. and has L.A., S.D., or Seattle in mind initially unless their family is there. Fact is S.F. Is like the west coast N.Y. It's where all the western immigrants came to initially so it definitely makes sense to erect a statue there instead of other Cal cities. I agree the statue should be the scales of justice on a bay island. It's not just about tourism, its about U.S. history. If all those immigrants had came to L.A. Then I'd say put it there. Might as well erect a statue in Biscayne Bay, and New Orleans as well since they're immigrant cities too. Lol A statue of Pablo Escobar for Miami since his drug money literally built the city to what it is today in the 80's, and one of Jefferson in NOLA for the L.A. Purchase. One on the Rio Grande of Arizona Gov. With her hands touching the ground, and extending out the entire length of the border forming a fence. Haha
