San Diego's size is irrelevant. Southern California in general is 22 or so million people. Thats a large enough market for San Diego to prosper in, Los Angeles is only an hour and a half away.
The 8th largest city in America is too small? It's bigger than Kansas City, Indianapolis, Boston, San Francisco, Miami, Seattle, Denver, Tampa, Philidelphia. So really, you make no sense at all. Plus it has over 3 million in it's metro.
Nice try though.
Its not larger than Philly, but I see your point. Though I think if they were going to look at a place, Metro area population would be more of an issue. Otherwise, Miami would never have a chance.
I would love to see a couple of games out of San Diego.
I think a "pod" of the northeastern cities - Boston, NYC, Philly, Baltimore, DC - would be a good idea. All are close to each other, allowing people to go to games in different cities. Plus, the region in general has a huge population so seats would definitely fill up. Finally, the eastern time zone is relatively accessibly to European viewers, which could possibly be a factor that affects FIFAs decision.

How fair would that be?!?! hopefully that doesn't happen
It wouldnt be a thread involving Dallas if Matt wasnt here picking apart the metroplex. Who cares? Its not like people stop going to Cowboys games because its out there, it wouldnt be any different if Dallas were chosen to host a game of the world cup.
I was simply letting SoCalBrad know that it wasn't going to be held in the City of Dallas like the list would otherwise suggest.
Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex would have been more appropriate considering Arlington is a lot closer to Fort Worth than it is Dallas.
That would be about like me saying the Tomatoe Fest held in Jacksonville every year is a Tyler event when they're in the same metro yet 25-30 miles apart.

I don't really get why this matters. "Boston" is actually Foxborough. "NYC" is actually East Rutherford. Etc etc.
Some of the cities up for consideration don't even have a large soccer influence in the area especially those with no MLS teams. Believe it or not but the Metroplex has some amazing soccer venues and other venues such as the cotton bowl or cowboys stadium that could easily host this event.

I'd much rather see it played at AA Arena.
I know Jerry would put off getting another face lift to have the World Cup at his Deathstar though.
