A dense and populated neighborhood feels much safer to me, than one that has been depopulated with buildings torn down and total population decimation, like these areas in both the examples above.

I dont get that feeling or why do empty lots feel more dangerous... if anything a populated block will have some characters you need to look out for.. those empty spaces in the midwest are just empty spaces unless you have a whole gang/trap on that lonely house in the middle of the block. I don't know, people see stuff different but here in California the worst blocks in terms of danger are the most populated ones like the projects or Fig ave to Vermont and Manchester.

Because a busy block, although it may have some shady characters, also has many eyes and many ears, "watching" the block, so-to-speak.

I think most people would much rather live on a populated busy street that is a bit more run down and rough, rather than a sketchy street with only 2 or 3 occupied homes and 2 or 3 half abandoned houses on it.

Those depopulated areas are just goldmines for crime.

True true.. those bombed out midwest hoods are like if compton kept all its gangs from back then and the non banging people move out in mass and demolish the houses after moving away. Id imagine over there that one house on the street has the whole gang in there.

Philly has some bad looking hoods, but as posters have shown; there are some really desolate looking places in Midwest cities (abandoned factories, homes, etc.) that look really bad. Gary, Indiana is a place that comes to mind. I also remember driving through an extremely desolate looking area outside of Indianapolis years ago that looked like something out of the walking dead......

Yeah. It's the state of a lot of areas in "rust belt" cities right now in the northeast and midwest.

The worst neighborhoods like this seem to be in St Louis, Cleveland, Baltimore, Detroit and south side of Chicago.

And smaller cities like Youngstown, OH, Flint, MI, Camden, NJ, East St Louis, IL, Gary, IN, etc.

There is a youtuber named CharlieBo313 that has a channel of the worst hoods in just about any city in the US. I would have to say that the worst of the worst are Camden NJ, Gary IN, Baltimore and Philadelphia.

Out of all the hood videos I've seen, this one in Philly was the worst.

Tbh on the video that doesnt look too bad, since bad looking = bombed out buildings to alot of people, that looks more like a baby skid row.. just bums and addicts everywhere but that video doesnt even show the architecture of Philly just homeless on that block.
