I know for most outside of US when they think of a black american city number 1 on the list would be Detroit. It is just known as a very black american city.

The other cities on the list not as much is really known?

Detroit is definitely the highest-percentage black city (large city) in the US, but that doesn't necessarily make it the "capital" or "mecca" of Black America. Many cities have been given the title over the years, including Chicago, Harlem & D.C. Atlanta seems to be the choice these days because so many black people are relocating there from around the country.

I'm Black myself and everyone in my city that is African American wants to move to Atlanta everyone. Why, because Atlanta has a good reputation of having money. Its cheap, every rapper has a house out their, those are one of the few cities that have done well with mostly black people unfortunatly since most black people are poor from the couple of generations back that were slaves and they started out from nothing. Los angeles isnt even black anymore its run by mexicans, yeah it still has a few black areas but those are definatly not the places blacks want to go. After Atlanta i say Miami, DC and Chicago.

It's so Atlanta. Atlanta crushed this poll, even with the "other" option. Detroit? Really. How many folks do you know want to move to Detroit? New Orleans? After Katrinia? Are you sure about that.

What's interesting is a successful black person with applicable credentials, articulate speech, ideal diction, would fair much better in cities like Seattle, SF, Boston, Minneapolis, Denver and perhaps SD. When you are a big fish in a little pond, you can eat all of the bait. When you are crab in a barrel, everyone is trying to pull you back. Atlanta has an allure that is the ideal place for African Americans to achieve prominence - and this is true to a middle class extent. However, I've found in my personal global travels and various domestic interactions, the former serves true much more applicable than the latter.

Ok? I've seen a lot of successful blacks in Philly, Brooklyn, DC, and Atlanta. I think your correct statement would be that if YOU were a successful black person, U'd move to SF BOSTON MPS, ect. SF barely has a black population..

Miami??? I can think of several cities that are more popular for relocation for Blacks than Miami--Houston, Dallas, NYC, Charlotte, Nashville, etc.
