In population, definitely. But the AA culture in DC seems to be overshadowed by the fact that it's the nation's capital.

But in terms of perception, political influence, quality of life, and African-American pop culture, Atlanta really takes the cake in my opinion.

Maybe I'm confused, but what country is "Black America"???? I only know of the United States.....America.....and it is black, white, Hispanic, Asian, gay, straight, etc, etc.

DC's role in black America is far more than population. Atlanta appeals to the masses, and it's more of an "anyone can make it here" type of place, but Washington is the city where it's harder to hack it, and the most concentrated black wealth, intelligence, and influence exists there.

BET and TV1 are still headquarted in DC, so it's still an important city when it comes to black entertainment.

He's obviously using "Black America" to refer to African-Americans as a whole.

Lighten up. Nobody is saying African-Americans should break off and become their own nation segregated. We're simply referring to the city that's seen by most Africa-Americans as iconic for it's wealth of black cultue and influence.

As a a non African-American, I would venture to say Atlanta and DC would be the capitals of black america. ...Seattle? lol, so amazing that was even an option. I think I saw like 7 blk ppl when I was there.

Philly is def black too, but it's more poverty-stricken blacks unlike Atlanta and DC which has more educated middle-class blacks.

Anyway, Atlanta for thr win. Tho, the actual ethnic break down of Atlanta has seen big influxes of yuppie white ppl in recent years. Even the most recent census has the number of blacks in Atlanta down and the number of whites increasing.

Interesting indeed!!!
