It depends.

Western Pennsylvania is more like Ohio. Eastern Pennsylvania is more like Maryland.

Kind of hard to say. Pennsylvania and Ohio seem to be about equally rural overall. They are nearly the same land area and population, whereas Maryland is much smaller than both in land area. Pennsylvania is largely characterized by mountains, forests, farms and small towns.

I believe the Appalachian mountains are not as prominent in southern Ohio as they are in western Maryland and in much of Pennsylvania. Also, it seems like Pittsburgh is more associated with cities to the east than with Ohio's cities. And Philadelphia is definitely more connected to Baltimore and Washington, D.C. than to Ohio's cities. So, I give the edge to Maryland here.

It depends - the Northwestern Part of PA from (Lawrence County North) is definently more associated with Ohio...the Pittsburgh Metro (one caveat maybe Beaver county) has more association with the east including DC being its number 1 Hinterland city...The rest of Southwestern PA that straddles the line of WV and MD of course MD has the better association.

East of Allegheny Mountains is all MD, although Northeastern PA has very little association with MD they have NONE for Ohio....

More people should chime in on this one, especially those from Ohio.

I lived in Ohio for 15 years and Pennsylvania is grouped along with Maryland rather than with us. Of course, I'm from Cincinnati so that might influence that opinion.

I think the deciding factor is that Pennsylvania and Maryland are considered east coast states, whereas Ohio is midwest.

As a frequent traveller to all 3 of these states I would have to say that Maryland feels, looks and seems much more like Pa than Ohio. The closest thing I have ever seen to OHio is Southern Ontario Ca.
