Allowing the jets and Giants to keep the new york" in their name is stupid and weak. What other state would stand for that?

Stop being nycs step over state. It annoys people that dont come from step over states/cities
NJ clings to NYC the same way NYC clings to NJ, CT, L.I, and the northern suburbs. Contrary to popular belief these are the people that run NYC because they are the ones that make the money for NYC. What's your point?

You really mean investing billions in public transportation getting our people back and forth to NYC, making money and bringing it back to NJ. Basically we use your city to make our state richer. Yeah I can see how that wouldn't make sense to you.

You really mean allowing the Jets and Giants to pay the state of NJ to use our land and keep their name. If it don't make dollars then it don't make sense. And who knows how to make money better than NJ?

Well you're right on this one we are your step over state. As soon as someone in NYC can finally afford to move the first thing they do is step right over to NJ

Have you ever heard of the dotbusters?

Anyways NY and NJ are more like VA and WV.

Virginia and New York are both states that people in general want to live in, both have good reputations and excellent universities (New Jersey has Princeton but as for top universities, it basically ends right there). I mean New York is a name you can ask anyone of in India and they will know what it is, even people living in slums there will know of the name. Virginia has a rich history and is the home of Thomas Jefferson, also it has the best high schools in the country along with some great universities.

New Jersey and West Virginia are just in the shadows of two great states.

How does nyc "cling" to nj, especially in the sameway nj clings to nyc? The majority of the people making money for ny are new yorkers, lets not over due it. NYC is the city it is because of its massive population.

Lol at bringing money back to jersey, that money is being spent in nyc. Dont jersians even pay a working tax just to work here? smh

Jersey is losing out on 100s of millionms by not having their name on the giants and jets. Ya get no promotion or media attention with those teams. You defending it only shows me how weak jerseys identity is. Who cares abou the money. You not seeing not money lol

Hahaha you're too funny dukes

That same massive population you claim makes the city is also its downfall. People leaving the city in droves every year because the cost of living there is absurd. And where are many of those people going? That's right they're coming over that river.

Why would we spend money in NYC when we can get the same stuff in Jersey for less money. Even New Yorkers know what's good. That's why you can go to any mall in NJ on any weekend and see a sea of NY license plates.

LOL @ who cares about the money. See that's the difference between NYC and us. We're after the paper while you just want the attention. You can have all the media you want. We're good playing the background getting that money. Flashing lights and TV cameras can't feed your kids homie.

A number of reasons.

The most important reason being that NJ is much more entwined with NYC than Connecticut is or ever was, and therefore is more "relevant" to NYers. As openheads says, Connecticut is content to fly under the radar. NJ's feathers get ruffled because NYCers (and frankly not the classiest of NYC's citizens) spend their summer weekends on NJ beaches, and yet it's NJ that gets the reputation for these bozos, not NYC. But NYC and it's media (most recently MTV) is happy to feature these bozos on a TV show, and call it "Jersey Shore", tainting the region of the state of NJ that it's residents are MOST proud of, for at least one generation, until the cultural significance of the show has worn off. If you mention the Jersey Shore, you now get snickers, in 49 out of 50 states....because of one show that paints an entire REGION, 120 miles long, with one (disgusting) brush. This is why the average NJ resident is infuriated over the show.

Another reason is that NJ made the mistake of putting it's ugly factories on the NJ Turnpike, which is the #1 most traveled road in the US. This is what people see, and so this is what people believe.

Connecticut is a state that is almost a twin to NJ, really - demographically, culturally, etc. So where are the reality shows featuring Connecticut? Answer: there are none, because Connecticut is a less interesting version of NJ.

But it's odd that Connecticut has such a different image than NJ does, when the states are really as identical as 2 states can be.

I will admit that much of the anti NJ bias is tongue in cheek, among NYers, particularly NYers that have been here for several generations or more. Many (if not most) NYers have family in NJ. Many people who are at least semi-informed, know that NJ is a pretty nice state. But the transplants? Ahh, the transplants, who make up a huge % of Manhattan's population - and most of whom have never stepped foot in NJ - the negative bias towards NJ is alive and well in this segment of the city's population. If you haven't experienced it, you should spend more time in the city. It truly is bizarre, and there is no reason for it. No other city sheds such a disdainful light on it's OWN SUBURBS.

You can ask anyone in India about NJ and they'll know it immediately because everyone in India HAS FAMILY IN NJ. Friends and family in both India and Bangladesh have asked me about Oakridge Rd. specifically before, that's the main strip of the Little India in Edison/Iselin, in case you didn't know. You know absolutely nothing about Indians or NJ, stop making stuff up.

West Virgina is similar to... NEW JERSEY??

Your dissing on NJ, the state with the most Indians per capita? The one with thriving little Indias from Edison to Jersey City?
The state of Harold and Kumar??

Yea india is clueless when it comes to NJ.. It's ironic because you seem to be so interested in NJ as an Indian yourself- Ranting about italians while calling nj the racist state in America and all. You sound dazed and confused.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that North/Central NJ has significantly more Indians than NYC does.

California 100% Mexican???

WTF is that? I have never heard that. Cross the borders and see for yourself. Tijuana is ghetto, San Diego blows it away. California has the pricey new homes allover the hills. California has a reputation for stars and millionaires. It does a good job of keeping it's rep.
