Born and raised in Dallas
Lived in Houston for 6 years
Currently in Oklahoma City. Been here 5 years
And went to college in Arlington, Tx although I never actually lived there
San Jose - 1 year in SJ proper, 7 more years in the suburb of Los Gatos
Raleigh - Full time for 27 years, now part time for last 9.5 years
Houston - 9 month assignment in the West Loop/Galleria area
Miami - 9.5 years (well, really Miami Beach)
Since I can live anywhere I want with my job, I am most happy with Raleigh and Miami. I go to San Jose often and am uninspired by it now. I didn't like Houston at all.

The irony of this list is that besides Phoenix every single other city you've listed are my TOP favorite cities (with Washington DC being the one left out on your list), including my Top 4- Denver, Tucson, Seattle, & San Diego.
Some of my most favorite fashion designers are Lebanese too.

First impression though, super chic, bustling, cosmopolitan and absolutely gorgeous.
Looking forward to spending time there, even though my heart is still in Istanbul after the past year.
Chic is a great word to describe Beirut. So fashionable, great food, cosmopolitan flair, more Ferraris and Lamborghinis than I ever see in L.A., etc. I actually prefer Beirut over Tel Aviv even, its prettier, more bustling, and just more interesting.

You guys have peaked my interest. Now I really need to add Beirut to my list of dream vacations. I know so little of my heritage.
Not to sound ignorant and/or offend anyone, but is it at all risky to visit Beirut?
Yes, the country is completely unstable right now and there is a realistic chance of violence breaking out soon on a large scale. But don't let that scare you (LOL), I would still go back in a heartbeat if I didn't have an Israeli stamp in my passport
new york city: assignment for master's. loved the museums, the churches, the opera, the philharmonic, christmas time at rockafeller center the history, architecture, the food, the various opportunities, the concerts, and the sightseeing venues. disliked the pace, the unnecessary rudeness and the apparent pride many took in being rude and trash mouthed. too expensive in manhattan, too expensive in most areas, too crowded, generally, too noisey.
washington d.c.: the history, the city and its attractions, the country side, the political scene, the smithsonian natural museum of history, particularly, the zoo, kennedy center, naval square, the national cathedral, the national shrine of immaculate conception, mcclean, fall creek falls, alexandria houses, dining. the things i disliked was the traffic, the pace, expensive suburbs and the city. parking. overwhelming number of cold and detached people. too much of the "walk over someone else" in order to get an advantage or ahead of the other guy.
boston: the things i liked: the history, the buildings, the scared music, the british influence in the city proper and surrounding areas, the antiques, the intellectual opportunities, trinity church, brian jones and the trinity music program, educational institutions, and the importance of learning about culture, music, history, dining, food, and the nation, exloring the back bay, the cocktail parties, sailing, cape cod, the winters. i liked many of the suburbs, much of massachusettes, the bay, fish and seafood. two + years well spent. things i disliked: pretentiousness, pressure to constantly perform, social fatigue, expensive, tendency to over-indulge.
nashville, tn: it may not be a top 50 city, in itself, but i think the metro area of davidson county, in addition to franklin and williamson county, mufreesboro-rutherford county, and maury county qualifies it. things i liked: the capitol building and legislative plaza, christ epsicopal church and its mix of romanesque-gothic-neoclassic styles. union station, belle meade, st. george's music, the lay of the land, swan ball, and westend ave. the things i didn't like: country music, pretentious and superficial leadership, generally, population was ashamed to admit their country roots and perception of cowboy boots, cowboy hats, and hee haw, overly concerned w/ its image by larger cities; e.g.: atlanta, charlotte, memphis, louisville, and austin. do not want blacks and black leadership to take any major role in politics, as has occurred in memphis. city is too small, and it is operated in that manner. a few spur most things. no direct routes to get from one place to another, generally. it was the worst experience of my professional life, even though i have family who remain there for the time being.
memphis: things i like: about the right size, like the ms river and the river setting, big medical community and research community, love the culture and food, pretty friendly and pace of city is fairly slow for its size, like the music community (great symphonies, great opera, ballet, chamber choir, memphis boy choir), but great blues, underground, rock-n-roll, rap, live music, and recording community, good arts community and museums, world class zoo, st. jude hospital and research center, gambling casinos, inexpensive cost of living, love the island, the architecture, the urban park at shelby farms, midtown, downtown, annesdale, central gardens, overton park, country side, easy going and go your own way attitude, city marches to its own tune and that attitude is strong, easy to get around the city things i dislike: many poor, good deal of political in-fighting, very political city, beginning to lose some of its southern roots, due to outside influences, needs more controlled growth of city proper, too democratically influenced, i don't like the relationships between the city proper and the suburbs in tn, and i don't care for the division caused by some because of the different states involved in the metropolitan area. i was born and reared in chicago; however, and i have lived in several other large cities. i would not move back to chicago to live, nor would i return to any of the other cities, except boston, if i moved from memphis. i like it here, all in all.
