yawn what? NYC is a metropolis city that is diverse, has just as much street culture if not more than london.....actually it does have more streetlife/culture than london. Nyc is a skyscraper city(hong kong) with the culture equivelant to london. What other city has that combination. NYC is the michael jordan of cities. Best overall game. Period
Not to mention its been voted number one by gawc and timeout.

Chicago has a smaller population both within city limits, and perhaps more importantly, in the metro
Chicago has weather that's less attractive to most people
Chicago has a much smaller presence in the media as it's not early as big a media center
Were there any really big points?
Anyhow, I think these are things that the city really should address. The south side of Chicago really could do with more people and the south side's lakefront (and canal/river fronts) really could be develop-able gems. It also seems odd for Hyde Park to be such an isolated pocket.
Chicago's mass media muscle does need work. I understand not attracting douchiness is important, but it seems quite a bit of Chicago's native talent end up in NYC/LA because there isnt' enough opportunities in the city. The Second City alone seems to develop a lot of talent that winds up elsewhere.
As for weather--how about shelters on the el platforms and bus stops? A more developed "underground" city such as those found in Toronto or Montreal would be great, too.
London is not the best city of the world. These website are not credible. News Headlines
This web site is more credible than those web sites that you have mentioned. NYC is the best city in the world.
That's not what the links say. Sorry.

You actually don't think these are reasonable? They've already been discussed before and all I did was recap the reasons for WHY Chicago is overshadowed. There's nothing in there about Chicago being a bad city or having no positives.

I don't know if it would be an addition to the factors you already listed or a symptom of them, but Chicago also does not get near the tourist traffic as the other two which could play into it being overshadowed nationally and especially internationally.
The Global Financial Centres Index has ranked London ahead of New York since the Spring of 2007. The company who compiles information for the GFCI is headquartered in London, but it is considered to be the gold-standard for Finacial Center rankings. Here is an excerpt from a 2008 Business Week article describing some of the methodology of the ranking:
To figure out where each city ranked, Z/Yen Group surveyed more than 1,200 professionals in the financial-services industry and combined their responses with other metrics such as cities' average salaries and the amount in corporate taxes companies have to fork over...
Leading the pack are London and New York—the only truly global financial centers in the ranking—whose liquid financial markets, educated workforces, and business-friendly legal environments check all the boxes for what it means to be an economic hub.
The World Economic Forum (WEF) now ranks the United Kingdom ahead of the United States (http://www.tradingmarkets.com/.site/news/Stock%20News/2570530/ - broken link) in financial services.
The total points in the GFCI:
1. London: 790
2. New York City: 774
3. Hong Kong: 729
In sub-sector rankings, New York City ranks first in Banking. London ranks first in the rest of the sub-sectors, which includes Asset Management, Gov't & Regulatory, Insurance, Professional Services, People, Business Environment, Market Access, Infrastructure, and General Competitiveness.
So while it's close, London seems to be the king of Financial Services...though New York is not far behind.
P.S. Before you start trying to throw dirt on this ranking, open GFCI 6 and go to page 29 and see where they get their statistics from.
P.P.S.
New York is firmly atop the United States:
GFCI Score
2. NYC 774
8. Chicago 661
Asset Management: 2. NYC; 8. Chicago
Banking: 1. NYC; 9. Chicago
Gov't & Regulatory: 2. NYC; 8. Chicago
Insurance: 2. NYC; 10. Chicago
Prof Svcs: 2. NYC; 9. Chicago
People: 2. NYC; 10. Chicago
Business Env: 2. NYC; 5. Chicago
Mkt Access: 2. NYC; 5. Chicago
Infrastructure: 2. NYC; 7. Chicago
General Competitiveness: 2. NYC; 5. Chicago
So while Chicago is very powerful, it's just not on the same level as NYC.
Not anymore.
As of March 2010, GFCI now ranks New York City ahead of London (or tie, I think).
1. New York City
1. London
3. Hong Kong
4. Singapore
5. Tokyo
6. Chicago
7. Zurich
8. Geneva
9. Shenzhen
10.Sydney
11. Shanghai
London dropped 15 points since the last ranking, New York City gained a point. Don't look now, but here comes Asia...Hong Kong & Singapore gaining ground fast. For the first time in awhile, London & New York aren't #1 & 2 in every category. Hong Kong appears to be the new world leader for insurance services.
Boston's up a couple spots though
