Things are really different up north due to govermental laws. But state to state,Georgia is right next to New York.
No, GA isn't on par with NY as a state.

Also, Los Angeles is still bigger landwise than NYC. So, the 5 borough/county aspect of NYC is a moot point. Its metro goes into other states due to geography and commuter patterns.

Ckthank,My point isn't about land size it's about the reality of NYC being a city of 5 combined counties.

It's not my fault that land size out West is larger. So like the reporter said in the LA Weekly, you give Los Angeles 4 other counties to form one city and compare that to the 5 NY counties and than you get the real answer.

But anyway this isnt about L.A vs NYC,This is about California vs New York State and we all should now realize that California should only be compared to other countries instead of other states.

An accurate comparison of NYC to LA is impossible because there are no conglomeration of counties allowed in California. The nearest comparison would be composed of LA County, Orange County, and probably Riverside and San Bernardino as well. Either way, the point still holds true... LA is far more spread out than most major cities-L.A Weekly
No, this doesn't make sense. In terms of governance, the counties are ceremonial at this point and its the municipal government of the City of New York that has subsumed overall governance. Nothing technically prevents California municipalities on a city or county level to amalgamate (or further divide) or specifically permits NY state counties to "more" do so, so I'm not sure where you got that piece of knowledge from. I think there are many attempts to do an apples to apples comparison as best as possible and that usually resolves itself to some sort of urban area/msa/csa comparison.

Probably better to do something like a region to region comparison and to think of California as a region unto itself. Population-wise, I'd say maybe a Mid-Atlantic (New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania) to California comparison seems sensible.

Kings county is only 71 sq miles minus water and packs 2.6 million people in that small area
NYC with all 5 boroughs is only 304 Sq miles minus water and packs over 8 million people. You can put the entire city of NYC inside LA city limits. LA just isn't that densely populated nor is the city as built up as NY.

Sq miles doesn't define how great a city is lol

Jacksonville i believe is the biggest city land wise in America and i don't think anyone with the right mind has Jacksonville as some major American city.

Texas and Alaska is bigger than California by size and yet the Golden State is more populated than every state in the union. This is simply about the powerhouse California has become and how no single state stands a chance alone.

There was even a California vs 4 States thread and also vs Canada,California still came out on top so i don't see why putting a whole region vs California would be more fair.

If it's about size than how is it fair when NYC & L.A go up against other smaller cities in America ?

Frisco is nowhere near the size of a Super city but it's easily ranks in the top 5 U.S cities.

New York State just has to accept California is greater and in terms of overall influence, California is the bar to follow in the 21st century.

Whether it's Social Media,Google,Youtube,Uber,Lyft,
HighSpeedrails,Computer technology,Medical Marijauna etc etc they all come from the Golden State and than spread across the world.

There's an old saying,As California goes so goes the rest of the Country.

The nature of New York city is the vertical system,That's why it's so densely populated in a lesser land area.Everyone is cramped on top of each other and that's against the inner culture of Los Angeles. This is another reason why the Quality of life is higher on the Westcoast & California in general.

If you want an urban environment than DTLA/Mid-City Wilshire is a perfect fit for Eastcoast Transplants.

Than on the flip side if you want a more laid back lifestyle you than have the beach cities. If all else fails go to San Francisco lol

New York simply doesn't offer the same lifestyle you can find in California and that's not a bad thing.

Los Angeles has way more room to build than Manhattan ever has and once DTLA is completely done with all it's new project's it'll be near the most perfected city in the world due to the weather and other great amenities the area offers.

NYC does not offer the same lifestyle as California, and California doesn't offer the same lifestyle as NYC either. They are both great, but very different places. And Downtown LA will never be like Manhattan, and NYC has more room to grow outside of Manhattan too. That's part of the reason why we're seeing all these new scyscrapers going up in Brooklyn and Queens, and even supertalls planned + approved in both.
