I love LA to death, but this was one of the things that just drove me nuts when I lived there.

Gimme a break. All of america is materialistic. Black friday at Walmart. Trampling people to get a dvd player or a Talking Elmo. Huge glutinous fat people who eat portions meant for 3 people. It's not a rich vs poor issue when it comes to materialism. You can be materialistic at any price point.

LA is more fake money and it tends to be concentrated in a certain area. Manhattan (and the summertime Hamptons crowd) is real money materialism.

Materialistic =/= wealthy. Just wanted to point that out because I saw people speaking about money and whatnot. You have lots of people out there living above their means.
