Yeah you got University of Florida, Ithaca college and Cornell, Texas A&M, Florida State, University of Kansas, Penn State, WVU, ECU, university of Georgia, University of Vineland? lol. I assume that there must be a lot of cheap apartment complexes and townhouses and some sort of decline in the older population there.

I would take a guess that the amount of singles in the big cities has some correlation to the amount of nightlife going on in the late night hours. Basically people who aren't ready to settle yet.

Not necessarily. Its kind of like......if you need to get something done do you give the task to a busy person or someone who is not doing anything? In other words, one might think that the person with more time on their hands can get something done, but they may have more time on their hands because they are lazy and do not want to do anything. While on the other hand a busy person is task driven and looking for things to do and will squeeze it in. So...its kind of counter intuitive.

That is to say that many people are single because they WANT TO BE SINGLE...or they are not marriage material. Of course, if the demographics is younger.....than that will explain why there is more single people too. Thus, I think if you want to get hitched, you go to places that have high rates of marriage......because the social pressure to get married is likely stronger, meaning those there who are single are more likely to be looking for someone to marry.....to fit in with normative behaviors.

Interesting point--never thought of it that way. Though you could also argue that having more raw numbers of singles could spur some people to get married--less competition for quality mates if there's more to choose from. Not sure which is right--if marriage is based on limited supply, then that kind of paints a nihilistic view of relationships.

Singles can include people who won't define themselves as single. For example, Joe is dating Jane. But they're not exactly married and will both be considered single in the Census.

Maybe another way of looking at the data is that these are the places where getting hitched/married is the most unpopular or unsuccessful.....
