I asked this in the New Orleans thread earlier, but I'd still like more input:

I'm 22, single, in school at Baton Rouge Community College and I'm moving away after I graduate. I'm currently with my family in Baton Rouge and we've been here since Katrina. I've fallen in love with Atlanta and I've lived there twice: October to December 2010 (my aunt passed here in BR) and January to February 2011 (my roommate sucked in ATL). I've been laying the groundwork to move back to ATL on my own by the beginning of 2013--I have two studio apartments in the city in mind, both at about $700/mo.

I had a convo with a friend and he mentioned New Orleans and someone moving there. The homesickness kicked in for the umpteenth time, and now a move back home has become an even more likely option to Atlanta. Either way, I intend to have full-time work lined up before I actually move, and I clearly know my way around both cities. As far as experience goes, it's safe to say that I have a just as equal experience with both cities. However, I'm looking into a career in fitness (starting with an entry-level job at a Y or a gym), or freelance music/graphic design.

The crime in NOLA is another issue, though. How has it been going down there lately?

My question is: which would be a better move? Atlanta or New Orleans?

In terms of having more varied options for career and social life I would recommend Atlanta. I think New Orleans possesses some obvious attractions but not for someone serious about furthering specific career choices like yours. Good luck!

I'm 23 and also from New Orleans. I lived in North Carolina for a while and so I got to spend alot of time in Atlanta. I love it there too. I currently live in Orlando and I'm in the same boat as you. Homesick but I'm in love with Atlanta and Miami.

Atlanta has more opportunity but home is where the heart is.

Crime in New Orleans is about the same. It'll be that way for a while.

If I were you I'd figure out a way to let fate decide. I have another year of school left and I'm taking my time with my decision. Hopefully a clear sign will show up.

I'd have to say Atlanta, even though I love New Orleans. Just got back from a week in NOLA, and while I had a ton of fun, I think you'll have more prospects and opportunities in Atlanta.

I'd have to go with Atlanta, way more stuff going on really even if I prefer the built environment of New Orleans. Better yet would be DC, why limit your options.

In this economy, I say let the job decide.
