Why only start counting NFL championships in 1967? There has been an NFL champion since 1920. It wasn't a Super Bowl, but it was certainly still a sports Championship which is what you're looking for here.

The Philadelphia Metro area won 4 NFL championships. A total of 16 championships.

"Phillies2011" is right, the Eagles had won NFL championships before there were Super Bowls so they should count as well.

Default City of Champions

Pittsburgh

Steelers = 6 (1975, 1976, 1979, 1980, 2006, 2009)*
Pirates = 5 (1909, 1925, 1960, 1971, 1979)
Penguins = 3 (1991, 1992, 2009)

All sports teams = 14 (1909, 1925, 1960, 1971, 1975, 1976, 1979, 1980, 1991, 1992, 2006, 2009)

Asterisk denotes the calendar year in which a championship was won, not the season. Calendar years with multiple championships are shaded in BLUE.

Pittsburgh also ranks fourth overall on the Donovan Index of cities with more than one professional sports team, behind only New York, Los Angeles and Boston.

It would also be interesting to see each city's rate of success -- the number of championships won vis-a-vis the total amount of years those franchises have been in that city.

I'll do LA. These numbers take into account the 1994 MLB player's strike (no playoffs) and the 2004-2005 NHL lockout (no season).

Raiders: 1 Super Bowl championship in 13 seasons
Rams: 1 NFL championship in 49 seasons
Chargers: 0 championships in 1 season

Dodgers: 5 World Series titles in 53 seasons
Angels: 1 World Series title in 49 seasons

Lakers: 11 NBA championships in 51 seasons
Clippers: 0 NBA championships in 27 seasons

Kings: 0 Stanley Cups in 43 seasons
Ducks: 1 Stanley Cups in 17 seasons

20 titles in 303 seasons = 1 title every 15.2 seasons
