I think Austin and New Orleans also come to mind. I think Sandra Bullock and Matthew McCounaghy (spelling?) live in Austin, and I believe Brad Pitt (and Angelina?) spends quite a bit of time in New Orleans.

most cities with major sports franchises.

Lake Saint Louis had Nelly and Chingy (which was odd for a very white, conservative town)
Nearby Wentzville has Chuck Berry (thats three celebs in the very outer Burbs of St. Louis)

You see quite a few celebrities (mostly porn stars, surfers and punk rockers - although Sandra Bullock lived here when married to Jesse James) in Huntington Beach (depends on how you ask: maybe or maybe not a suburb of LA)

Some other people in the film industry live in Austin as well such as Robert Rodriguez, Richard Linklater, Mike Judge, and Quentin Tarantino. Also as far to my knowledge John Goodman lives in New Orleans, and Nicolas Cage used to own a condo in the French Quarter.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned Nashville. On a frequent flyer forum they say it's easier to spot a celebrity on a Nashville to LA flight then it is on a NYC-LA flight

Nashville might be a good answer, but I would imagine that's mainly confined to people in the country music industry, no?

A close second would be NY, without a doubt. That's why you have all those JFK-LAX non-stops. Oprah's big butt resides in Chicago, along with a few others. Some, particularly if affiliated with golf and tennis, live in South Florida. A few live in the Bay Area - I believe Sharon Stone does. And then you've got those living on ranches in CO, WY, and MT, where the locals simultaneously dislike them and are wowed by them.
