both are great, i feel like providence is more independent, it doesnt have a major city within 50 miles or so. This is a good comparison, it'll probably start a few discussions.
From the West Coast, I'd make a dash to Providence RI. I know there are some problems there these days, but I don't care for earthy-crunchy places and don't want an all-wheel drive vehicle, so Boulder is not for me. What culture does Boulder have? Shops for hemp clothing and a party school, the fairly easy to get into University of Colorado main campus? Providence has New England's rich historical tapestry, not to mention communities of Italians, Portuguese and other ethnic groups, together with their restaurants and cultures. Boston would be more interesting than Denver, and you can enjoy it without living there and paying through the nose. Even nearby Newport RI is interesting.
You're trying to compare a city of 1,630,956 metro (Providence) to a town of 293,161 metro (Boulder). Providence is a bustling medium sized city while Boulder very much clings to their "town by the mountains" mentality. This is a horrible comparison. And by your comparison criteria, this is obviously favored towards Providence. Urban living in Boulder? Are you serious?? This is dumb.

Reason: Edited to adress OP, for the sake of clueless posters

Are you asking me? In a way, Boulder bolts onto the Denver metro area, and is usually lumped in. Sure, show the view from the Flatirons looking down. It's beautiful. So is the University of Colorado campus. The OP asked a question. I answered it. Where would I want to live? I am no longer into winter sports and don't like places with a high "granola" factor, so I wouldn't like Boulder. Plus, I would probably live in the outskirts of Providence.
How about an Oklahoma City vs. New York City comparison next...SMH
yes. i was not basing the comparison off the skyline, and both cities are part of large metros
