Moving from Atlanta to Vegas is just a totally different ball game. First of all you're leaving a "real city" with numerous industries and a stable economy to a city that has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country and thrives off of one industry. Anyway here are my pros&cons:

Pros: Different city and a new experience. Vegas is unique and no other city in this country is like it. Lots of entertainment, affordable, quick drive to SoCal. Nice winter weather. Great restaurants/buffets

Cons: high unemployment, too many low paying service jobs, hot summers, outside the strip the city has no personality(very cookie cutter/suburban), traffic is a nightmare especially near the touristy areas

Coming from Atlanta you will notice immediately that there aren't a lot of black people in Vegas. You will see a lot more Hispanics&Asians(and of course white people). There aren't any obvious black neighborhoods that I saw in Vegas(I could be wrong) but there are black people in Vegas and black culture can certainly be found(black barber shops, clubs, restaurants, etc). However do realize you're leaving the southern culture for west coast culture. Accept it and don't try to make Vegas like Atlanta. And you kiss the forest/greenery in Atlanta goodbye. Brown will be your new favorite color in Vegas.

I would honestly stay in ATL unless you really like to gamble and want a 24/7 city. Vegas is too touristy, ATL is a strong southern city with a lot to offer.

I didn't say it doesn't happen. I said its nit common. Would you think its a great idea to dress for 70 degree weather in Atlanta in January? Most people wouldnt. It was 22 degrees in Atlanta last week. Here in Seattle I didn't need to wear a jacket most last week. If anything Atlanta is unpredictable. But certainly no springtime in winter feel like southern GA or Florida.

At night it was in the 22, and that was for about a day. Guess what? It bounced right back into the mid 50s and it hit 61 later in the week. Most people wouldn't dress for springtime in Seattle either. I know I didn't when I lived there. You might stay warmer at night than Seattle, but during the day Atlanta on average gets warmer. I just came from outside and I didn't need a jacket.

And you are only speaking of this week. Springtime weather in winter is more common in Atlanta than in Seattle. And when I say springtime, I mean when temperatures are at least 60 F or warmer during the day. Last time I checked(and I have lived in the Seattle area before), that hardly ever happens in Seattle.

And here in Atlanta, we've had a warm winter. The difference between Seattle and Atlanta is that Atlanta is more erratic. However, the average January temperature in Atlanta is warmer than in Seattle. And in Atlanta, you are much more likely to see temeperatures hit the 60s and 70s in January than in Seattle. I should know because I live here.

In fact, this past January, the average high for Atlanta, for January 2013 was 56 and the low was 39. I'm talking about the average for January 2013.

Seriously? The OP said they did not care to discuss the weather, only the social scenes in either city.

Las Vegas is mostly a dump. It's economy took a huge hit so you can find condos for next to nothing. Nightlife needs no explanation. There is something for everyone. Personally, I would never want to live there. When I lived in San Diego, we used to visit LV quite regularly. That wore off quickly.

I don't know why anyone would pick Las Vegas over Atlanta.

But seriously, any night of the week, you can find something to do along the strip.

Just realized my post is all over the place. So is Las Vegas.
