Ah, okay. So sounds like states that issue an enhanced drivers license, skews this percentage downward a little bit. I wonder if enhanced drivers licenses were also counted, how much higher Michigan would rank in this survey?

I can't speak on the percentages, but I know of many friends who have the enhanced drivers license. For years, my SO had this and we'd use it go to Canada. It's popular in Michigan and assuming other border states to cross into Canada.

I may be wrong but I think those work by land and sea? IIRC, in addition to crossing into Canada/Mexico by car, those can also be used on a Caribbean cruise (as long as you're not flying into an international departure port). I seem to remember friends of mine doing this but my memory is hazy.

Short answer, I knew many who had an enhanced license and not a passport.

Because it's only $500 roundtrip, it's a place worth visiting on its own merits, and it offers a much different experience than the European cities. I can see getting to them (at least London and Paris) before LA but why wouldn't LA at least be in the rotation of potential leisure destinations?
