Maybe that's a southern thing. One thing I've noticed is that white areas never "go black" anymore..I think there is a taboo about it. They go Asian, Hispanic or Hipster though.
In D.C. the white areas stay white or go diverse. Black areas go white or diverse.

The exception to that is puerto ricans..they can move to a white neighborhood and not change it so much that the whites leave. Other ethnicities not so much.

Well, in the Atlanta area, the wealthier areas are more likely to go "Asian". Areas with a more "redneck" reputation started going Black, at least along the southern and western fringes of metro Atlanta. Clayton County went from 90% White to 60% Black in the span of a decade. Douglas County is starting to go that way as well. On the northern part of metro Atlanta, there are more Hispanics moving up there. Areas with the "tough white guy" element in the northern counties are seeing increasing Hispanic populations.

Atlanta is a boom town. In a few years it'll settle down. Plus tough southern boys live way out in the country, it's a whole different thing. I prefer cities where the majority of white people are not college educated, it gives a whole other vibe...maybe it's just because I have a violent hate for yuppies since they ruined the area I grew up in.

I live where there are alot of "tough southern boys"(living with the parents for the moment until things get better). I'm Black too. When my parents moved out there, it was even moreso like that. I can walk around and still find people driving with Confederate flags. I'm not into that element. I feel safer around the college-educated types(of any race). I'm also college educated. I still have memories of being jumped by "tough guy" types. I don't have any hate for yuppies. For me it is personal. I can't recall any bad things done to me by yuppies. I can recall many bad things done to me by the "tough guy" element.
Well for D.C. nearly all of the lower income and working class whites have moved to the suburbs, far suburbs for greener pastures. That and D.C. never had heavy industry, being so close to Baltimore it didn't make any sense. As for Atlanta the tough white guys live out in the country mostly.
This. You can still see lower income/working class whites that used to live in DC and Inner-Beltway PG County living in southern PG like Upper Marlboro and Accokeek for example and a lot of them are now living in Southern Maryland, particularly Calvert County, lower Charles County, and St. Mary's County especially close to the bridge heading into King George County, VA.

The City is 49.5% Black/African American, 43.4% White (35.8% non-Hispanic White), 3.9% Asian, 0.7% Native American, Alaskan, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander, 2.6% two or more races/mixed race, and 10.1% Hispanic/Latino according to the 2013 Census.
