Buffalo has 4 votes. Their fans are just as passionate and crazy as any I have experienced, and the Bills and Sabres are always sold out, but they don't have any championships, so they have next to no votes.

That's wrong.

San Francisco has four (almost five) championships in the last four years and they only have 9 votes.

Yeah, that may be why people may consider them the best sports town in the US, when I'd argue they're just as passionate in Philly and Chicago (but with less success).

I've seen them both first hand. I definitely agree about Philadelphia and Chicago and judging by the votes, it is reflected here.

I hate Philly teams but I can't argue with their fans passion. They don't win many championships but their fans are everywhere. Same with Chicago.

I said Boston and New York, with Chicago in 3rd. Baseball is the biggest rivalry between Boston/New York. Spike Lee showed it best when in Summer Of Sam, two of the goomba's run into a punk, and they ask him his favorite baseball team, and he says Boston Red Sox and they beat the crap out of him (movie takes place in NYC in summer of '77)

Easily Pittsburgh. Followed closely by Chicago, Philly, and Boston in that order.

Hate to break it to you but the Red Sox and Yankees rivalry is pretty dead nowadays.

Even Ortiz said it. A-Rod is retiring too.

You are right though, baseball is the biggest rivalry with New York. But New York has other rivals as well and it isn't really rivals with Boston in terms of basketball (anymore) or hockey. Football yeah, but just the Patriots and Jets.

New York is more of a basketball city than anything. If the Knicks ever get decent again, watch out.

As much as I hope they never win a single ring, I must say Philly has the absolute most rabid sports fans.

The Knicks and the Sixers need to get good again.

Aren't the Sixers the third most historic franchise after the Lakers and Celtics?

I voted for the cities of Buffalo, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Kansas City. Residents of those cities eat, sleep, breath, and die sports. Not just fair weather bandwagon fans like the mega market teams.

Sure the big markets like NYC and Chicago have a lot of fans but that's only because they have such large populations, I'd hardly consider them "sports crazed".

Boston is the most fair weather sports city in the country. They only reason people consider them sports crazed is because their teams recent success. The bandwagon will empty when they start to decline. The Bruins have missed the playoffs the last two season and the future doesn't look to bright. Tom Brady only has a few more years left in them. Let's see how loyal the Boston fans will be when they start turning in sub .500 records.

Of the huge market teams Philadelphia maybe be the exception. Lots of die hard fans, very loyal, and not afraid to let other teams fans know it. However, they do have some of the worst fans in the country, 2nd only to Boston sports fans of course.
