what are differences & similarities? In terms of social life (judged by friendliness), transportation, crime, and which cities are cleaner (in terms of litter and air quality)?

Why the hay is Detroit and Miami on here? You should've put Chicago and Houston or at least Philly.

Transportation — Detroit; least congestion
Social Life — Detroit; most down to earth people (both city and suburbs), less materialistic
Crime — Detroit; Detroit has the most
Cleanliness — Detroit; NYC is grimey and full of litter, LA is full of smog, Miami's ocean water isn't always the cleanest

Detroit also has a better cost of living, you can buy a house for cheap (including the suburbs, but the city is even better)

Detroit!

That's what you would expect me to say. I just wanted to see how many people would say Detroit or Miami over global cities such as Chicago, NYC, or LA.

Lol why are you even bringing Detroit into this comparison in the first place? Detroit should be compared with St. Louis or Cleveland, not NYC or LA.

That's what I said at first. But I can see his point on how some may prefer places like Detroit or Miami over thriving cities like LA or NYC (in terms of QoL). Especially with L.A. and NYC being expensive and all (though Miami can get expensive, depends on the area). But in this case, metro areas should be taken into account, not the cities themselves.

Is Miami's quality of life that bad, that you compare it to NYC and LA as an underdog city?

How is Detroit beating Miami and New York?

On the other hand, of the usual Midwest, West, South, and Northeast (suspects) match ups, I have to say your selection for the Midwest is strange to me. Have you looked into Chicago or Denver?
