How many stadiums (over 30,000) do you think a city would need for an Olympics especially with the addition of rugby and possibly football.
American Football will never ever be included as an Olympic Sport. Its only popular in the US, and semi popular in Canada.
Besides, for Stadium Sports, they will spread out the tournament play to various regional cities.
The Atlanta Olympics Football (soccer) tounnament was played played in DC, Florida. Alabama, Georgia and Texas. The LA Olympics saw tournament play in Boston, Annapolis, the Bay Area and Pasadena.
Vancouver was a terrible location for the Winter Olympics. Not sure how you can pick a host city that barely gets any snow and isn't even that cold. Sochi is even worse.
Well, perhaps a geographic perspective is necessary.
Atlanta acheived all its goals. It broke all kinds of sponsorship records and was one of the most profitable. So yes.Atlanta did a stellar job.Ask Montrealenders how they feel about having the Olympics.
Montreal is a Canadian city. The comment was "This is the United States. We could host an Olympics anywhere if we had to, in our sleep. And they would be incredible."
Atlanta was crass commercialism
the LOC was dysfunctional
The athletes transit system was a mess
The bombing didn't help
and IZZY (or whatizit)
I have quite a few friends that competed there. They were less than impressed.

Im aware. My point was that I'd rather have an Olympics were it was a finacial success than a burden of 30 years that nearly bankrupted a city.
I was here during the Olympics and it was not nearly as bad as SOME people say it was that were not there.
Compare an Olympics to Baercelona or London, then yes I would be less than impressed also.
In my opinion the games arre just as commecial as ever.In fact I think many games have followed suit since Atlanta.

I wouldn't say every us city could. The federal Gorvernment doesn't invest into Olympic Games unlike most other countries. This gives us a disadvantage unless you have alot of private money like Atlanta did with Coca Cola in 1996.

I don't think it's good to spread out the venues anymore. People spend alot of money traveling to that city to see the games. Having an event happen in la if the game was hosted by Seattle it defeats the purpose, atleast keep in the region. Of purse soccer regionals isn't that big of a deal in terms of the Olympics but my host cities should aim to keep it in the region.
Just because you can hold a Winter Olympics doesn't necessarily mean you should. Didn't think they could pick a worse choice for a Winter Olympics than Vancouver but I was wrong lol. At least the next host city will actually have a real winter climate.
