S.F. Has More Restaurants and Bars Than Anywhere Else. Really.
But as a secondary nightlife district for LA, Koreatown isn't too far off from SF vibrancy. There's nowhere in the Bay Area, other than the nightlife spots of SF itself and maybe Uptown Oakland on a good day, that can match the vibrancy of Koreatown at night. There's a lot to do. Many of the KBBQ places don't close until midnight at the earliest (and they serve drinks but won't be counted with your bar/nightlife establishment list). Then you have the clubs with entrances only from alleys, more mainstream bars, etc. Koreatown at night is actually pretty bananas and I had no idea it was like that because during the day it's a normal, high density neighborhood with over 40k people per square mile.

And the bar density thing was explained.

Nice 6 year old link, btw.
That's restaurant density, not bar, that San Jose is included on.

Here's a more recent one, SF is #1 now: These 10 U.S. Cities Have the Most Bars per Capita - Have A Night | Drink Specials | Bar Events

Today, if you took a contiguous 47 square mile area centered around Central LA and parts of the westside, I'm not so sure there'll actually be more venues in SF than in that core area of LA.
Yeah SF has even more bars per capita now: These 10 U.S. Cities Have the Most Bars per Capita - Have A Night | Drink Specials | Bar Events

I doubt it because that 47 square miles centered around Central LA is a lot poorer than SF, A LOT poorer. The demographics are vastly different.

How can you post a link that shows Ithaca and Myrtle Beach but not NYC, Miami, or even Chicago? In other words, this is a bogus list that doesn't help your point. No one is going to Ithaca because of its bar density, lol!

I'm on LA's side here on this poll but that list after Miami and your statement 'No other cities matter' is ridiculous and shows you either have not been to other cities or are just trying to rile people up. Lost credibility.

Becauase I’m simply pointing out bar density. You seem to be reading more into it.

Okay, why are you posting about bar density?

It'd be an interesting attempt to find out. There are a lot of places to drink that aren't necessarily catering to the well-heeled, but should probably still count as nightlife.

I think an area bounded by the Santa Monica Mountains, Los Angeles River, the 10 freeway, and Robertson with a little step west to Dorley going north is probably about 47 square miles and hits a lot of the nightlife. It's also where a lot of new construction and infill has occurred in the city which generally caters to the single and more affluent crowd. It leaves quite a bit out, but we're trying to go for a 47 square miles that's not too irregular in shape.

Because you were going on about nightlife areas in LA being larger. What does it matter when those larger areas still don’t have more bars/nightlife establishments? Again that’s just a result of LA being spread out.

Truth be told the most of SF' nightlife is not contigious either. Even worse, it is all with in 6 square miles. So in terms of nightlife, the vast majority of SF does not have anything going on at all.

People love to pretend SF is vibrant, but the median age is nearlY 40 years old, LOL!!!! SF is filled with elderly and as such, is pretty dead after 10pm.

This is a nice set of posts together for its complete lack of self-awareness.
