My sincere apologies for not including Savannah in the poll. Clearly a big oversight on my part.
Since we're making suggestions, I'd add St. Louis as well. It wouldn't win, but def. better than half the list. There are 2 parades, and yes, one is actually on St. Patrick's Day.
Perhaps because SAVANNAH is a city of 146,000 with a PARADE that routinely attracts 500,000? The 2012 Savannah parade was the nation's largest and had a crowd estimated at 1 million.
Per the OP's criteria -- Fun level, History, Years running, Size, Affect on the City (how much people look forward to/talk about it) -- no other city comes close to Savannah. St Patrick's in Savannah is a week-long celebration very much like Mardi Gras.
Yea I'd say Savannah's has to be up there with Boston, NYC, and Philly. Obviously less people in Sav than Irish people in any of those three other cities, but the Savannah St. Patty's Day Parade is a long running national event.
I wonder how many people celebrating down in Savannah are actually Irish catholic? I doubt that there is a significant amount of people that are.
Doubt it. Plus, after NYC, Boston, Chicago, the next largest parades aren't really that large, comparatively.
You need to include Savannah in that list. Savannah's parade is huge.
