To be more fair, lets include Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, DC, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan in the Northeast and Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida as well as the territories of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands in the Southeast. Basically, anything east of the Mississippi River and north of the Ohio and Potomac Rivers for the Northeast and anything south of the Mississippi River and south of the Ohio and Potomac Rivers for the Southeast.

The Northeast is home to the Great Lakes, New York, Chicago, Boston/Providence, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Baltimore/Washington, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Cincinnati, Columbus OH, Cleveland, Green Bay, Indianapolis, Springfield IL, and Milwaukee.

The Southeast is home to the Gulf Coast, Charlotte, Raleigh, Richmond VA, Memphis, Nashville, Hampton Roads, Louisville, Birmingham, Mobile, Jackson MS, Jacksonville, Savannah, Atlanta, Miami, Chattanooga, Tampa Bay, Wilmington NC, Orlando and San Juan.

Which region is more better? Northeast or Southeast?

Minneapolis, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin are all Midwestern not Northeastern. I can give you a pass on PA and Maryland, but great lake states are definitely the Midwest. Not even up for debate.

Minneapolis is a city. IL, MI, OH and WI are states. Minneapolis is part of Minnesota which is a North Central State. I decided to include IL, MI, OH and WI with the other Northeastern States, because I wanted the Northeast to compete with the Southeast better and I want the Northeast to be more fair. That's why.

East of Cleveland and north of the Potomac and you got the Northeast. Beyond that is a stretch.

Sorry but Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia and Indiana are not the northeast in anyway whatsoever.

PRI and VI don't belong in this discussion either but LA and AR do. I mean seriously this is a mess.

But I quess I will play along anyway and will say the northeast based on your criteria is superior. No city below the Mason Dixie line can measure up to NYC and Chicago.

You have nearly twice the northeastern states mentioned than the southeast. Seem like it would be more fair NOT to include great lake states. Great lake states really don't have much in common with the East Coast, let alone the Northeast. So I don't think it's fair to include them. I think including Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas and Iowa as southeast wouldn't make any sense either.

PR and VI are territories of the US and because of that, I decided to include the territories in the Southeast. Louisiana and Arkansas are part of the South Central States since both states are west of the Mississippi River. West Virginia is part of the Northeast because if WV is part of the Southeast, the Northeast would look strange since there is a big piece of land between Maryland/Pennsylvania and Ohio that for some reason isn't included in the Northeast.

Depends on what you like, but both cities have too much sprawl. Decent public transit considering the options of other cities in the region, but horrid compared to even the worst in the Northeast. If we were to discuss urban, the Northeast takes this easily. I think economically it's a more fair battle though. However Atlanta is really the only major big city that's also a viable business hub. You have pockets of business cities in the south, but they don't meet the criteria of major cities. Miami isn't really a business city.

New England and Mid Atlantic part of the Northeast has many states that are really small. This is why I decided to combine New England and Mid Atlantic with the Great Lakes States to create the Northeastern US. The East Coast includes states from the eastern parts of the Northeast and the Southeast. Oklahoma is a South Central State. Missouri, Kansas and Iowa are North Central States.
