It couldn't just be because people take issue with the poll for various reasons including those from Nashville or Salt Lake City.......threads like these attract ignorance like dead bodies do maggots.

This poll/thread is strictly about construction/infrastructure projects. Let's keep GDP, pop growth, and such to the side lines. All of those things ultimately affect the demand for construction, but are just contributing factors.

Example being Charlotte has more GDP than Austin still even with Austin's growth and Charlotte being initially hard hit by the recession. Charlotte simply has more people, HQs, and a larger financial sector presence. Those facts are outside the scope of the current topic.

I think this pretty much settles the debate in Austin's favor. Based on my perception, I would also think that Nashville which is also in the midst of a construction boom would be second in terms of number of projects.

I was focused on what's actually under construction because every city has plenty of projects that never get built during a boom cycle.

Is this based on buildings or infrastructure as well? Right now the airport in Charlotte s under a $1.5billion expansion to be completed by 2019. Additionally the LRT extension of the current line will be completed by 2017 and is an additional $1.2billion that will spawn more construction. With just these two projects I think the gap between Austin and the rest is actually pretty narrow. Maybe Austin does have more but this poll is obviously not the best barometer.

Those definitely count. Austin is currently expanding both its terminal, international processing, and parking, but not nearly to the tune of 1.5 billion. The expanded airport would handle about 4 million additional passengers a year. If Austin's light rail is approved this fall, the price tag on it is estimated a little over a billion.

I hope that the LRT gets approved for Austin. It will dramatically change the landscape. When I have some more time I will post some more of Charlotte's developments that are going on.
