Heck, the mayor is a classic liberal from the Northeast who focuses on major project after major project. He was in Memphis just today touting that that "talent, tech, tolerance & transit make great cities."
Do we need to go to the Tennessee Forum and have a "most liberal mayor" smackdown? I have the feeling my mayor would win, though I realize that Dean, Berke and McMillan would give her a run for the money.
It feels like you are being defensive in reaction to old Nashville stereotypes. My point is a conservative person would feel at home in Nashville that wouldn't feel comfortable in Portland or SF.
May I suggest DC? Now, I know what you're going to say -- DC is deep blue, they vote for the Democrats every single time, it's the center of big government. But hear me out: The fact that it's the national capital guarantees that there's always a strong and vocal contingent of Republicans. Republicans have the majority in Congress; every one of those Republican congressmen needs a staff, and that's to say nothing of right-leaning lobbyists, non-profit employees, etc. This is the city where the Heritage Foundation is headquartered. In places like New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, you're going to be embarrassed to be a Republican. In DC, you may be outnumbered, but you'll never be embarrassed -- you'll find loads of people like you, and even those who disagree with you tend to be respectful out of a sort of professional courtesy. It's an interesting culture.
Yeah, not so much. I lived in DC for many years and the Republicans in DC maintain a low profile as not only is the city heavily Blue, so are the suburbs in all directions into VA and MD. Besides that believe it or not just because people work for a GOP politician doesn't mean they share all of the same ideologies, because in the end for many....it's just a job.
It's all relative. It's more red than many of the larger cities with the exception of Phoenix and Oklahoma City.
