Wow! The Phoenix statistic shocks me. I rarely see Natives here in the Valley, and I've lived here since birth.

It may be that many are concentrated in certain parts of the area and/or identify as such but you may not know.

You must not go to Central PHX or downtown much.

That is true. I am usually in the north valley, considering I live there.

I don't want to be the forum "downer" but how many of those "native american" individuals particularly east of the Mississippi River are truly Native Americans. I believe the actual percentage and totals would be much less.

Who gets to define if they're "truly" native Americans?

Also, there are states east of the Mississippi with reservations. Just in Upstate NY, there's 6 and there are a couple of land claims. So, it may depend on what state/area.

For instance, these 2 brothers are from the Onondaga Nation just south of Syracuse: http://www.majorleaguelacrosse.com/n...aaraton-award/

"Like African American"?

I prefer African American.

There are about a dozen reservations in Wisconsin and they have a pretty large presense here. I'm not sure why you used the inaccurate "east of the Mississippi" qualifier, it's an unecessary tag to your point (which does have some validity throughout the country).
