NYC becomes a very different city as day changes to night, and places like the east village are where you see a lot of late night activity in Manhattan, and have to fight for taxis.
I don't have much experience with HK, but I can say that similar is true for Tokyo & London.
True she clearly didn't visit the east village but I'm sure she'll say she did.

I did in the first post about this, again. Go to Yelp, type in a city in the search, leave the search term blank. Hit Search. Then click on "Restaurants" in categories, and then go to "More Features" and do "Open at" and pick your time and day of week.

For example, here is Atlanta in the Nightlife category open at 5:01am on a Sunday (i.e. Saturday night)

http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc...open_time=8941

And again, I've already stated why it's not a 100% accurate number but semi fair. There are places with no hours listed, and others with the wrong hours listed (some cities are worse than others - some have am and pm switched around for its hours). Some places don't even have pages, and some places that have closed for business are still indicated as open.

Billylacc, LA has more than you think. I was actually surprised with LA's late night options. LA’s Best Late-Night Restaurants « CBS Los Angeles

Even 24 hr coffee at Tom n Tom's. And to say most LA restaurants close at 8 or 9 is completely false.

What part of LA are you in Billylacc?

Here's some more random data, looked up via Yelp under the category of "Nightlife." Basically I took 1 minute past each hour after midnight from Saturday night (well technically Sunday) - that would be 12:01am, 1:01am, 2:01am, 3:01am, 4:01am, and 5:01am and saw how many places in that category are listed on Yelp. Then for that time period I took the average, per 100k (using 2013 census estimate populations), etc. Again, this is not 100% accurate, it's just data. Nightlife includes any nightlife whether it's bars/clubs/lounges or hookah bars or adult entertainment places.

Raw Average 1 minute past the hour from 12:01am - 5:01am
1. Chicago | 548 establishments
2. Las Vegas | 368 establishments
3. Los Angeles | 339 establishments
4. Washington DC | 238 establishments
5. Portland, OR | 206 establishments
6. San Francisco | 204 establishments
7. Atlanta | 194 establishments
8. Miami | 184 establishments
9. Phoenix | 167 establishments
10. Seattle | 156 establishments
11. San Diego | 148 establishments
12. Houston | 142 establishments
13. Denver | 141 establishments
14 Philadelphia | 134 establishments
15. Dallas | 123 establishments
16. Columbus, OH | 122 establishments
17. Austin | 119 establishments
18. Milwaukee | 105 establishments
19. Minneapolis | 99 establishments
20. Boston | 97 establishments

However, with so many cities' main nightlife shutting down at 2am, I thought I'd have a look at places open even at 3:01am, 4:01am, and 5:01am and their per 100k rates
1. Las Vegas | 49.32 per 100k residents
2. Miami | 25.14 per 100k residents
3. Atlanta | 7.44 per 100k residents
4. Chicago | 3.73 per 100k residents
5. Louisville | 3.17 per 100k residents
6. Washington DC | 3.14 per 100k residents
7. Portland, OR | 2.68 per 100k residents
8. San Francisco | 2.31 per 100k residents
9. Denver | 2.1 per 100k residents
10. Seattle | 2.04 per 100k residents
11. San Diego | 1.5 per 100k residents
12. Dallas | 1.48 per 100k residents
13. Austin | 1.47 per 100k residents
14. Minneapolis | 1.33 per 100k residents
15. Phoenix | 1.19 per 100k residents
16. Los Angeles | 1.17 per 100k residents
17. Detroit | 1.02 per 100k residents
18. Milwaukee | 0.95 per 100k residents
19. Columbus, OH | 0.93 per 100k residents
20. Houston | 0.93 per 100k residents

Also the OP said comparing. If you have been to multiple cities around America like me, you would know what he's talking about.
Yea... I Only lived there for the last 15 years..... LMAO .... That is just Booster BS right there ..... NYC does close down.

I reside in NOHO and work all over LA and I'm speaking of day to day takeout also and there's not much outside of what I named when you'd just like to grab a bite and keep moving without having to go to semi casual or formal sit down restaurant which can be quite pricey for an impromptu
Meal.

Do half of these Miami numbers on these list even include Miami Beach or just the city of Miami? If not, than it goes to show how mainland Miami's nigtlife is underrated and overlooked since Miami is still making the top-5 and top-10 on some of these list that have been posted. Every other city, has their main nightlife artery within the city-limits, so their numbers aren't stinted like Miami.

Good point. Vegas is only 24-hour where all of the people are.

LA isn't really 24-hour but because we have so many people we do have lots of places like restaurants, fast food, and grocery stores that are 24 hours. By percentage it might be small but you wouldn't have to go far at all to eat or grocery shop in the middle of the night.
