Times Square & vicinity isn't exactly a litmus test for night-time vitality (or really much else, honestly) in NYC though, as it's not really a nightlife destination as much as areas downtown. Midtown is primarily a place where people go during the day to work. And 2014 Times Square is for family friendly tourist activities.
NYC becomes a very different city as day changes to night, and places like the east village are where you see a lot of late night activity in Manhattan, and have to fight for taxis.
I don't have much experience with HK, but I can say that similar is true for Tokyo & London.
True she clearly didn't visit the east village but I'm sure she'll say she did.
Could you post your source and the names of the restaurants that your source counted for each city?
I did in the first post about this, again. Go to Yelp, type in a city in the search, leave the search term blank. Hit Search. Then click on "Restaurants" in categories, and then go to "More Features" and do "Open at" and pick your time and day of week.
For example, here is Atlanta in the Nightlife category open at 5:01am on a Sunday (i.e. Saturday night)
And again, I've already stated why it's not a 100% accurate number but semi fair. There are places with no hours listed, and others with the wrong hours listed (some cities are worse than others - some have am and pm switched around for its hours). Some places don't even have pages, and some places that have closed for business are still indicated as open.
Here's some more random data, looked up via Yelp under the category of "Nightlife." Basically I took 1 minute past each hour after midnight from Saturday night (well technically Sunday) - that would be 12:01am, 1:01am, 2:01am, 3:01am, 4:01am, and 5:01am and saw how many places in that category are listed on Yelp. Then for that time period I took the average, per 100k (using 2013 census estimate populations), etc. Again, this is not 100% accurate, it's just data. Nightlife includes any nightlife whether it's bars/clubs/lounges or hookah bars or adult entertainment places.

You have never been to NYC then. You can get pretty much anything you want 24/7 in NYC unless you live in one of those suburban style areas. Sadly this was part of one of the bigger reasons why adjusting to Maryland was difficult. At least in Flatbush I can get me some nice jerk chicken at 2AM.
Also the OP said comparing. If you have been to multiple cities around America like me, you would know what he's talking about.
Yea... I Only lived there for the last 15 years..... LMAO .... That is just Booster BS right there ..... NYC does close down.
Yeah even in Pasadena stuff stays open till midnight. Hollywood, almost all restaurants stayed open till 2am or later.
What part of LA are you in Billylacc?
I reside in NOHO and work all over LA and I'm speaking of day to day takeout also and there's not much outside of what I named when you'd just like to grab a bite and keep moving without having to go to semi casual or formal sit down restaurant which can be quite pricey for an impromptu
Meal.

Do half of these Miami numbers on these list even include Miami Beach or just the city of Miami? If not, than it goes to show how mainland Miami's nigtlife is underrated and overlooked since Miami is still making the top-5 and top-10 on some of these list that have been posted. Every other city, has their main nightlife artery within the city-limits, so their numbers aren't stinted like Miami.
LA isn't really 24-hour but because we have so many people we do have lots of places like restaurants, fast food, and grocery stores that are 24 hours. By percentage it might be small but you wouldn't have to go far at all to eat or grocery shop in the middle of the night.
