Kind of like "I'm awake at 4am, what are the chances that I can get something to eat right now in the city in general and will I have many places to choose from?"
That's why for me, NYC is still king. I lived in Queens up until a few months ago and at 4am I could get up, take a walk, do my laundry get a meal from many different establishments, or play pool if I wanted to.

?? I'm pretty sure Vegas is only 24 hour in the touristy areas. Have you been there? It's NOT 24 hour where the 2 million residents of the metro are/live. Not at all.

Every other city, has their main nightlife artery within the city-limits, so their numbers aren't stinted like Miami.
I'm willing to bet it includes the surrounding areas. I noticed when I looked for something in Atlanta, it eventually started counting some of the close suburbs. It's probably not a lot, but probably some that is counted.

FWIW, all supermarkets and gas stations in Clark County operate 24 hrs./day in addition to all of your usual culprits like Walmart, fast-food restaurants, et al. Also, liquor is sold 24 hrs./day in all of NV.

Oh, yeah--no last call in Vegas, either.

I don't know what you're smokin', but that sure seems like a 24-hr. town to me.

I noticed the Bay area shuts down early. For those prices, you would think otherwise.

Thats because everything to do in Vegas is located in and around the strip. No one is hanging out trying to find things to do in Henderson at 3am Vegas is much more of a 24/7 city than NY, not even close.

?? The supermarkets, gas stations, diners and drive throughs, wal-marts are open in Iowa City, Iowa 24 hours a day for crying out loud. Not the liquor aspects of it, but the other stuff. Not saying it's as 24 hour as las vegas by any means, but those items you listed are open 24 hours in basically every city in the country (right? - I assume if they're open in Iowa City they're open elsewhere.)

Vegas is 24 hour around the strip, but the 95% of the area that's the rest of the metro where people live is on par with other cities of that stature.

Yeah, that's hardly unique to NYC in this day and age.
