Having lived in both cities I can't think of anything in San Francisco as bad as Mercer Street during rush hour.
The absolute worst traffic in the Bay Area are downtown SF city streets in the evening. Just traveling a few blocks can take forever. I have thrown my hands in the air several times just sitting there idle in my car.

That's all you do? You're a lot calmer than most people.

When I used to work in SF, driving down Geary was a pain, but nothing was as awful as "driving" down Market after 5 PM. I used to work on Montgomery and made the mistake to drive in from Berkeley. I legit felt like I aged 3 years after that commute.

Looks like Thursday evening is the worst traffic time of the week in both.

What year is this data from? Hours of delay along I-5 and 405 in Seattle have supposedly doubled between 2010 and 2014.

Hours of delay doesnt necessarily equate to more miles of highway congestion.

Furthermore, with the booming economy, traffic has gotten much worse in many places, including the Bay Area too.

That ranking has SF at #2 and Seattle at #5 (with San Jose at #6).

I would agree because of how far that traffic spreads, again because the Bay Area is more densely developed over a substantially larger area than the Puget Sound. But, again, if you're in Seattle or the immediate Eastside communities it's as bad as it is in the worst sections of the Bay Area.

Traffic sucks everywhere. I used to live in both SEA and SFBA.

Aurora/WA-99 has to be the worst planned road in existence. I know that the corridor is under construction, but seriously, WA should either make it a full on freeway/limited access highway or leave it as a regular surface road. It's one of those outdated half-and-half kind of roads that creates choke points everywhere. It should in no way take 45 minutes get from 45th and Aurora to I-90.

SFBA, see the city of SF doesn't synchronize their lights. Driving down Market or Van Ness in rush hour, this becomes insanely annoying. LA has the same problem as well.

NYC, for all the congestion it has, has the sense to synchronize their lights.
