They're talking about the sheer urbanity of the CITY not metro.

Bosotn is #11 metro and isn't top 10 in urbanity as a metro. But as an urban space/city its 4 or 5.

^^That's about right. I'd put Boston roughly equal to Philly.

DC/LA can be flipped flopped depending on criteria

Seattle/Baltimore would be a notch lower

Miami, MSP, Pittsburgh, Detroit etc would be next down in terms of classic urbanity

DC will never catch NYC, Chicago, San Fran, Philly, or Boston in citywide urbanity, but vibrancy is a completely different story. DC is already more vibrant than Philadelphia in my opinion across the urban core and Boston is also a debate moving forward looking at the difference in the city urban cores. It will be an interesting debate moving forward based on where development is happening in both cities.

Uhhh.. Seattle, LA, Portland, Pittsburgh, BMore, NO could also compete for those spots.. Atlanta is urban around downtown and only along Peachtree St in Midtown. Buckhead has some towers but it's not urban at all on the ground level.
