Houston -- I'd rather be in the Southeast than on the plains.
Norfolk, VA or Spokane, WA
Norfolk, VA
Close call for me. Would usually pick a West coast place near the coast over an East coast city, but Spokane is several hours inland. Do know someone near Washington DC. Don't know anyone in Spokane area. From Norfolk it is easy to explore historic areas of both the eastern & southern regions. City is on the Atlantic Coast.
Milwaukee, WI
Choose it over Dallas. Less suburban sprawl. Closer to WI relatives and people I know in MN. Close to Chicago & Madison. Being on Lake Michigan is a plus, too. Like the lakes, forests and parks in the region. Believe I could adapt to Wisconsin winter cold better than Texas summer heat.
(Fyi: It complicates things when someone skips over previous posts. Has happened frequently last few months. Forces the next poster to answer at least two city comparisons. Let's pay attention. Thanks! )
Another Texas vs Wisconsin choice...
Madison, WI or San Antonio, TX ?

Palm Springs. Better scenery and I like California more than Maryland.
Doctor Phillips, FL or Litchfield Park, AZ?
Litchfield Park, AZ
Funny name for the FL city, though. Must have been one famous doctor! Do know a few people in AZ. Much easier flights from nearby Phoenix airport back to the Bay Area for occasional visits.

Colorado Springs, CO or Des Moines, IA ?
Des Moines. More liberal/lgbt friendly and seems like a small but growing, pleasant Midwestern city.

Birmingham, AL or Memphis, TN?
Birmingham, but not by much. Both cities have run down, crime ridden areas with oppressive cultures. I would choose Birmingham because it has better shopping and dining options.
Lexington, KY or Greensboro, NC?
