Well, I used to live in the DM area (Ames) and it's a perfectly decent city, but I'm going to choose Greensboro because I've never been there but have ancestors who lived there for a couple of generations.
Hugo, OK or Peru, IN?
Peru, IN. Bigger population & inbetween Chicago, Fort Wayne, and Indianapolis.
Watkinsville is just 10 miles to Athens and 70 miles to Atlanta. Martinez is much further away . Don't know much else about the two towns except that they both have hot and humid summers, so that will decide it.
Charlottesville, VA or Eugene, OR ?

Watkinsville (or Oconee County) and Martinez (or Columbia County) are the most Metro Atlanta-like suburban areas in Georgia that are not actually in Metro Atlanta.
Evans, GA (in Columbia County) could've been listed in place of Martinez.
Oconee County is suburban Athens. Columbia County is suburban Augusta.

Charlottesville, VA or Eugene, OR ?
Eugene because Oregon is beautiful, road-trips to the coast,
South Bend, because there are WAY TOO MANY southern baptists in Fayetteville (don't believe the retirement hype. My parents retired there, so I know exactly what I'm talking about.)

Cooperstown, NY or Flagstaff, AZ?
Flagstaff, fun little college town close to Grand Canyon, and easy access to Sedona, Phoenix, and Vegas.
Fort Kent, Maine or Yuma, Arizona?
