Hi guys! I need some advice. I'm in my last year of college and I'm trying to eventually break into TV writing which will place me in LA, but prior to moving there I'd like to save up and work in something entertainment related (AD, PR, Publishing).
NYC- Lots of career options, #2 in entertainment, one & only
Downside: pricey, couldn't drive (or wouldn't make sense to), rent situation is crazy
SF/Bay Area- Opportunity to work in mobile gaming, highly ranked area
Downside: Same as NYC besides driving
ATL- Affordable, easy relocation, rising film presence
Downside: Not as desirable as other choices, large gay population (100% support, but single straight female here trying to have find a good dating scene)
What would you choose?
Option 1: Move to one of these cities first on a entry-level salary
Option 2: Follow dream and go straight to LA
Any other city suggestions that are fun, affordable, relatively diverse and have a film or entertainment scene is appreciated
I would personally go straight to LA but if thats not the case - NYC, the connections you make there will be enormous for your LA move. Atlanta is probably you're next best bet unless proximity to LA gives SF a boost, meaning you could make connections and/or side gigs from LA more easily.
ATL or LA. Sounded like the only reason not to go straight to LA is to save money. So either ATL or straight to LA...unless you actually land a good opportunity/connection somewhere else.
No point even considering New York or San Francisco, since they are both more expensive than LA. If you're really dead set on saving up first, then Atlanta should be where you go out of these four cities. It is actually affordable and, regardless of a relatively large gay population, will probably be easy to find a romantic partner. The only other con you listed is how it lacks the desirability, but that shouldn't be a consideration when moving to save up money.
