I've spent time in each of the "Big 5". All have their positives and negatives.

For my lifestyle, possibly due to having lived my entire life it the west, I'd choose El Paso.

I give the slight nod to Houston over Dallas, with the deal breaker being the Gulf Coast.

Like other posters have stated there are only two Texas cities I would want to live in, if forced to live Texas.

Metros:
1. Dallas/FT Worth
2. Houston
3. Austin
4. San Antonio
5. El Paso

If I had to stay in one city and never leave:
1. Houston
2. Dallas
3. Austin
4. San Antonio
5. Fort Worth

1. San Antonio
2. Austin
3. El Paso
4. Houston
5. Dallas

Lived in Houston the last 3 years and enjoyed it but it wasn't my cup of tea. After traveling and living out west a few years, I just can't shake off the vibe, mentality and culture just yet. The SA/Austin to me helps in that aspect. El Paso seems like a great town and I could live there mainly for its scenery but it's a tad too isolated. SA I feel is the gateway into the southwest and with lots of family in Texas and my situation currently, SA is prob as far as I can go

Houston was just too big and rushy Rush. Lots of things to do but people there are more live to work than the other way around. Dallas is nice but resembles Houston and isn't near the ocean or have nice mountain views so that crosses off my list from the start.

Default A mix...

1. Climate: El Paso

2. Vibe: Austin

3. Multicultural: Houston

4. Affordable: Fort Worth/Dallas

5. Livable: Fort Worth

6. Nature: Austin

7. History: San Antonio

8. Location: I'd take all of the items listed above from each city, and combine it into one big area, but relocate all of it to Pecos County, TX, mainly for the weather & scenery.

Boom.

I think San Antonio is more affordable than DFW, Houston or Austin.

My thoughts exactly, but just Houston for me (preferably Inside The Loop).

Houston. It's apparently the most walkable Texas city from what I read. It's also the biggest, the most diverse, has great food, and the climate is very nice for three quarters of the year
