Which one do you prefer? based on things to do, quality of life, people, food, etc. Do not factor in San Jose's proximity to San Francisco.
How can you not? I get that this is probably just for fun, but it's a huge handicap for Houston. As the previous poster said, without SF, Houston all day. San Jose is a city that absolutely functions as a secondary major city within a larger metro. Even if we're pretending SF doesn't exist, it doesn't eliminate the fact that real-life San Jose is a city that's very much influenced by the proximity to San Francisco.

fair enough, i'll allow it. i just don't want people to vote san jose strictly just because SF is there, which i've seen some people do. otherwise it's basically houston vs SF
San Jose is an hour away from SF and the center of the economic engine of the region, not sure what role some of you think SF plays in the daily lives of citizens from San Jose but it's probably overestimated. I think it's an interesting topic to exclude the city of SF, no need to take a "what if/fantasy" thread so serious.
If we're comparing South Bay to Houston then I'll take the South Bay. Probably the best weather in the country, great access to rolling hills studded with oak, redwood groves, the coast. Fantastic food scene, great job market.
Of course the reason this area is so desirable is the wealth of options and biodiversity surrounding it. Still, even with this handicap I'll take SJ over HOU.
Hillside homes with a view, Great weather, great schools, most innovative economy in the world, highly educated and highly paid work force, lots of career opportunities, shopping and dining is on point, SJ has nightlife, interesting ethnic communities, etc.
SJ also has the 49ers so...lol
Not only is SF nearby, but so is the Wine Country, so is spectacular coastline, so is Monterey/ Pebble Beach, etc.
Your really hard pressed to find a better place to live really.

Given the state of that team recently, is that really a huge point over Houston? It's a win, but if anything, Houston just has mediocre sports franchises in general.

I only pointed that to illustrate the sillyness of trying to separate SF from SJ. The SF 49ers' home field is located in the SJ area.
