I like Wheeling a lot. It is a great city. I'd have to rank the northern and eastern panhandle tied for 1st and then the Morgantown area with Preston county as an ideal place for a mountain cabin getaway. The problem with West Virginia is the lack of jobs, poor public schools and rampant drug overdoses. It would be a great place to live if you didn't have kids or they were out of high school. It would be a place to live a simple life, live in a small mountain house and go through the motions putting in 40 hour work weeks. Not much expectations beyond that.
If Mississippi is anything like Louisiana or Alabama I would hate it.
For as "racist" and "backwoods" that people are implying West Virginia is, I challenge you to find me a city in Mississippi that's as educated, vibrant, or prosperous as Morgantown, WV is. Partially because it's home to WVU, and partially because it's very close to Pittsburgh, Morgantown is a liberal oasis within an otherwise socially conservative state.
Pittsburgh has no bearing on growth in Morgantown. Morgantown has growth because of the University, Mylan HQ and some federal government offices. How could a city that isn't growing have a positive impact on one that is?

Mylan is based out of Pittsburghs suburbs. Not Morgantown.
Mylan was founded in Morgantown. The research, development and manufacturing of the drugs are down in Morgantown. 79 of 164 of the open positions on their site are for Morgantown. The company big wigs sit in an office in Canonsburg and claim it as their corporate address.
