Cincinnati has some really good neighborhoods. Never been to Richmond, but Cincinnati absolutely has some great spots in the city.
It definitely appears that they do; I haven't been to Cincy, but all I was getting at was it seems Richmond's neighborhoods are being underrated here...
I have lived in both Cincinnati and Richmond. Cincinnati certainly feels like a bigger city, but both cities offer plenty to do. I’d say Cincinnati has a little more to offer in terms of restaurants, museums, entertainment, and overall attractions. Cincinnati also has 3 professional sports teams which draws more attention to the city. Both cities have great art around town which is one of my favorite things about them. When it comes down to it, I prefer cincy though.
Sure, Cincinnati is more urban developed along its riverfront, from the new stadium to the casino, there is more construction and investment going on. Richmond is more urban in the city and core areas, as I stated previously, and you gave excellent examples of this. Richmond, however, has nothing like a Covington, Newport or village like communities across the river like Cincinnati has. When I refer to bigger and better attractions and shopping, I am referring to Cincinnati's Kenwood town center and surrounding retail, Hyde Park Square, Cincinnati Premium Outlets, IKEA, several locations of Whole Foods, Costcos etc. Richmond only has one Whole Foods. Kroger's major presence also gives Cincinnati the one up on grocery options. Richmond also has no answer for Cincinnati's large airport, King's Island, Cincinnati Zoo, or National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. Richmond does have higher ranking museums, and definitely more art galleries/districts than Cincinnati. I do have first hand experience with both cities. My family has lived in the Hyde Park area and Norwood areas for decades. My niece is also attending the Virginia Commonwealth University, and I have made several trips there, not only to see her but to work, as I am in the healthcare management field.
Long story short. I have no hatred for either city, but when some posters state things that are not true or exaggerate their experience of either city, I have to speak out. Some posters have claimed that Richmond is better than New Orleans or even cities not in the same tier such as Nashville or Charlotte, when objectively speaking that is not true. Everyone is entitled to their own experiences, and that is great even if I do not share the same experiences. Thank you for responding, succinctly, and in a civil manner.
Yeah it's crazy. Cincinnati has everything Richmond does x 2. Plus a real airport, pro teams, substantially better shopping and restaurants. It looks, feels, lives bigger.

This....but I actually prefer Richmond...feels a bit more hipster to me, growing much better, seems to be more of a 21st century city. Segregation and racial issues still plague Cincinnati and I can see several of its big corporations getting in trouble with increased squeeze from Bezos...call me craxy but companies like Macy's Kroger, P&G in Cincy will all start feeling heat soon. At the same time, Richmond has NOTHING like these massive fortune 100 giants.
Cincinnati is very insular and parochial too. It's still a neat city. The streetcar and the saving and awesomeness of Over the Rhine is starting to give Cincy the edge....

P&G is a chemical company. Not a retailer so they won’t be effected by changing their distributed from Target to Amazon.
Also with Kroger you would have to be insane to order meat or produce over the internet.

Cindy is bigger and probably has a better amenities, but Richmond has a definite Austin-before-it-became-expensive vibe.
The Richmond Metro ranks better statistically than Cincinnati's Metro. Richmond has Higher Incomes, Lower Poverty, Higher Educational Attainment, and Slightly better Diversity with Richmond having a higher proportion of African Americans, Asians, and Hispanics.
