Bonus....close to Durango, Colorado and the San Juan Mountains,
most scenic range in the Colorado Rockies, not to mention also
close to Four Corners/Monument Valley
Elko is really in the middle of nowhere, not my cup of tea.
Yes! Glad you agree. The scenic 550 was a trip for me when I turned 23. Amazing journey. I completely forgot about Four Corners. I spent a Christmas at Monument Valley a few years ago and visited last June. Breathtaking. And yes, now that you mention it, it is pretty close to Farmington. Darlington is also near Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah rock formations and the Bisti-De-Na-Zin Wilderness for nature lovers, geology buffs, and those that can't get enough of otherworldly landscapes. Let us not forget the Aztec, NM ruins... 1300s Amerindian stone architecture is exquisite and a significant part of our world heritage...check out Chaco Canyon too. Elko can't hold a candle to any of that.
Agreed. A small, but yes, full-on city. Even has schools, a library, a court house, a jail, and 20,000 residents. A pit-stop for those who choose to make it that, but much more...
