The west side of Reno is actually pine-covered mountain, not brown hill. The top of the mountain is snow-covered until July or later.

Yes, that is what I said. "you don't have to go far to..."

I also implied they are somewhat close in the scenery department. However, within town, Reno seems like a desert compared to Spokane. Lake Tahoe and the Sierra are among the most scenic areas in the world.

Reno is going to have better winter weather, much more sunshine and warmer. Spokane has cold, dark, gray winters. Spokane has better summers though, not quite as hot. Spokane is more isolated, closest big city is Seattle 4.5-5 hrs. Reno has Sac 1.5hrs and SF Bay 3.5hrs. Spokane you have mountains to the north and Idaho and MT right there for outdoor recreation. Reno has the Sierra Nevada's right there. Neither have the greatest downtown/urban areas IMO. Spokane has a good sized old city core & good bones with potential, but it has a lot of very poor, ragged looking areas (but a few nice ones too). I think Spokane's downtown seems to be improving though. I was never a big fan of Reno's downtown as I'm not a big casino guy & it lacks character. Reno has better mountain views. Both no income tax.

Overall I would take Spokane. But I would need to get out of town a few times in the winter to get some sun and warmth.

I never saw the appeal to Spokane, WA. Granted I have never been there but from what I have seen online it seems like a depressing place but that is just my opinion. Nevada is a much better option IMO.

Well after spending time in both & looking over options I'm am for sure going with Spokane. The biggest is housing it seems to me at least there is more available & is more affordable. Reno's downtown was a disappointment, the hills outside Sparks were on fire & I got stuck in traffic for what seemed forever. Also as a native Montanan Spokane is closer to fam & I believe will be an easer move in general. If that isn't enough although Reno does have some green is parts not even a comparison to WA.

Good choice. Just be prepared for a grey, cold winter. But coming from Montana, you should be OK with it.

Yea I'm in the north east part of MT so I know cold winter & really I don't really mind cold & gray in fact I would take cloudy with rain & 20-60 deg over sunny & hot which is another thing about NV that killed me. What I experienced is Reno is becoming a bit like Cali & the Bay Area which has some good point but more bad in my view the amount of tesla workers I saw was impressive.
