Inspiration for thread from this article: No City Needs A Championship As Badly As Philadelphia | FiveThirtyEight

I nominate Washington DC. All our teams always choke in the playoffs whenever they make it, or they're so ineptly run that the ceiling is choking in the playoffs

That is a perfect example of "make the data fit the thesis". They sort of just arbitrarily pick 1984 because it excludes 2 championships from the prior 3 years, and 4 in the prior 11 years (76ers and Phillies, 2 Flyers) While a city like Cleveland or Buffalo has the same amount as they did in 1970.

Mediocre or trash? There’s a difference and NYC definitely falls in the mediocre crowd despite having a hyphed up sports city. Only respectable teams here are Giants, Yankees and Rangers!

Texas/Dallas currently would fit this IMO

Cowboys-Average
Mavs-Terrible
Rangers-Average
Stars- Pretty okay, best current team in Dallas I’d say

I'm actually surprised how little support the Islanders have. i feel like most people already forgot that they were a dynasty 30 years ago. Understandable why the Devils have no NYC support (and even in Northern NJ, its still ehhh compared to the Rangers), but watching the Rangers waste away Lundqvist has been awful to watch.

But yeah, the 2010s have been really bad for NYC save for a Mario Manningham catch. Especially for the NBA. Sheesh.

I’m convinced that orange and blue is a cursed color scheme for NYC. Luckily the Yanks and Giants know better than to wear those cursed colors.

Cleveland comes to mind first. Atlanta, Tampa/St. Pete, and Minneapolis/St.Paul also come to mind.

Minneapolis doesn’t make any sense

Vikings, Wild, and T-Wolves are all above average, well rounded teams.

The Twins and Vikings each made the playoffs in their most recent seasons. The Timberwolves are on a solid course to make the playoffs this year. If the Wild can do likewise, then all four "major" sports leagues will have had MSP representatives in their playoffs. You can also throw in The WNBA champion Lynx.

Yeah this is probably the worst era in Dallas in probably ever. The decade didn’t start that way though as the city was represented in three championship series in respective sports.
