Columbus outpaced Roanoke according to the census.
Do you mean out-paced in terms of population growth? Some of that could be because of the military base. Some people also may be warming up to other areas of Georgia.

Even with the military down sizing half of the last decade? I don't think so!
Been to both. I like Roanoke better, Columbus is okay but if I'm living in Georgia it would fall behind Atlanta, Savannah, Athens, and even Augusta on places I'd want to live.
It didn't have much of an impact if Columbus was "losing" population from down-sizing.
Why would you think that? BRAC decisions play out locally in different ways because it effectively determines winners and losers. And the way they play out locally need not correlate with overall trends.
